Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPjoyful
This weekend the challenge is to make images and videos that capture a spirit of joy, as in this featured photo from Tony Noël (@tony_noel). Here are some tips to get you started:
Head out. Think about the places you go that make you feel free and joyful. Set up an excursion — it can be solo or with a group of friends — to take pictures, make videos and enjoy the day.
Express your joy. Get creative with the action in your submission and think about the actions that bring you joy — like dancing, drawing and hiking — or express an emotional release, like a big belly laugh.
Consider symbols. Birds in flight, flowers and hearts, the wind in your hair, tossing leaves into the air, or even something as simple as your body language can express joy and freedom.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPjoyful hashtag only to photos and videos shared over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. By adding the #WHPjoyful hashtag, you consent to and grant Instagram all rights to repost your photo or video. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video shared over the weekend with the #WHPjoyful hashtag is eligible for the project and, if selected, to be featured next week.

Walking 300 Feet Under the Sea Level | Photograph by Guiseppe Fallica
“The Realmonte Salt Mines (in southern Sicily) consists of 50 miles of tunnels made at 300 feet under the sea level,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Guiseppe Fallica. “Inside the mine, there is also a church carved in the salt — suddenly an unexpected spectacular layering of salt and clay.”

“This is such a graphic picture, with fantastic swirls, patterns, and tunnels. The figure gives some scale to size of the mine, with a wonderful shadow as a bonus. Also, there is a nice photographic game going on here — the image looks like it’s a black and white photograph, until you see the yellow helmet, and you realize it is actually a color photograph. A nice surprise, and well done.” — @natgeo photographers Diane Cook and Len Jenshel (@cookjenshel)

Photo by @simonnorfolkstudio | A view of the Sasso Barisano district in Matera in Italy's Basilicata region. Known as la Città Sotterranea (the subterranean city), the city is centered on the Sassi di Matera ("Stones of Matera"). The Sassi caves originate from a prehistoric troglodyte settlement, and may constitute some of the first human settlements in Italy. Indeed, Matera is the only place in the world where people can boast to be still living in the same houses of their ancestors of 9,000 years ago. Miserably poor throughout the centuries, and a burden on the national psyche, the Sassi were forcibly cleared in the 1950s, but in recent years have seen the return of tourists, boutique hotels, and Hollywood film crews. Matera is European Capital of Culture for 2019. Photo by @FransLanting This is the time of year when the next generation of newborn emperor penguins gets its first look of the world beyond the belly feathers of their parents. They shelter them on their feet to keep the chicks from freezing on the sea ice where they gather. But it’s the melting of that sea ice that may become of a bigger problem for their survival. As Antarctica’s ice edge fractures under the influence of global warming emperor penguins are going to become symbols of vulnerability just like polar bears are that already for the Arctic. Follow me @FransLanting and @ChristineEckstrom for more images of emperors. @LeonardodiCapriofdn #Antarctica #Penguins #Planet #Climatechange #Earth

@jassensf pictures thousands of Volkswagen and Audi cars sitting idle in the Mojave Desert near Victorville, California. Diesel models manufactured from 2009 to 2015 intentionally cheated emissions tests mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency. Following the scandal, VW recalled millions of cars. Jassen Todorov says, "By capturing scenes like this one, I hope we will all become more conscious and more caring for our beautiful planet.

Fox and Ice | Photograph by Sonalini Khetrapal (@sonalinik)
"I wanted to photograph the rare blue morph species of arctic foxes in their harsh winter environment," says Sonalini Khetrapal. "To photograph these miraculously tough animals, I went to the uninhabited Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in northern Iceland. I captured my dream image as she stared straight at me, making fleeting eye contact, while we both braced ourselves against the roaring winds." -
