I had a revelation yesterday on the treadmill (where I either do my best thinking or no thinking at all) that my medium isn’t Instagram. You might be thinking “WOAH woah woah! Pump the breaks on this groundbreaking information!” 😉 but in all seriousness it was a conclusion I had been circling for a while without the words to articulate it. My medium is life. (Again, I know how base that might sound.) What brings me joy isn’t likes or followers — though knowing people enjoy my work and connect with it does make me very happy. What brings me joy, though, isn’t the number, it’s the representation and appreciation for what is beautiful. You can get likes and followers for a million reasons, but all that’s important to me is the connection and understanding that there is true beauty in the world and discovering it is in itself a beautiful thing.
I want to bring people together; I want to have more of those candlelit dinners with paper plates, bottles of wine, friends, and great conversation; I want to live beautiful moments, not for the vanity, but for the appreciation of all that we have.
Beauty isn’t all gilded bar tops and velvet chairs. Beauty is also blue early mornings and coffee steam rising out of your Bialetti. Beauty is walking down a neighborhood street with your friends talking and laughing and having no plans at all. Beauty is someone opening up to you. People listening to others’ opinions.
I’m hoping to do more living this year, and when I figure out what exactly that means, I’ll let you know. ✨
