Update: I’m currently weighing in at 119 & 16.8% body fat.... this is a mindset transformation... being so lean before and gaining most of my weight back has definitely been a challenge for me. Truth is I don’t feel as comfortable in my own skin and I feel like I set myself back quite a bit. READ FOR QUAD TIPS 🙌🏼Working with Client @abelcarreon30 getting those quads to grow! These are quad based exercises.
The first exercise in the video is a squat with elevated heels. In the video we are using a slant board, but you can just as easily put plates underneath your heels. Elevating the heels creates more tension in the quads and makes the glutes and hamstring work less. Today we worked with 2 half reps and one full rep to create more tension. As you can see, the feet are angled out slightly to create more tension on the “outside sweep” of the quads.
The second exercise is leg press. His feet are low on the platform again to get more quad activation (the higher your feet are, the more hamstring and glute activation you get)
Position the feet with the heels close and the toes pointing out, and when you push, put your weight on your pinky toes. This will activate the quads more. Abel is performing a slow contraction or slow positive. I recommend lighter weight for these because if you squeeze correctly they are very difficult. His quads were already tired by these (we didn’t start with squats) but if you want to add more tension, do 3/4 rep which forces the quads to hold the weight the entire time
The last exercise in the video is a single leg extension. I put a band on the back post and wrapped it around the leg rest for extra tension. Again, this set we did 2 half reps and one full rep for more tension. One little tip when doing leg extensions: don’t let your toes hang! Pulling the toes back will actually allow the quad to contract harder and you can activate the higher fibers 🙌🏼 keep your butt down and lean forward a bit off the seat for these!

It’s TIP TUESDAY!

What is pool running?!?! It’s a question I’ve gotten a lot this week as I start on my two weeks of active recovery. It is great non-impact, steady state cardio that’s harder than it appears. So, here’s a quick video demo with some tips on form. •

1️⃣ Keep your shoulders stacked over your hips as much as possible.
2️⃣ Arms should move like they do when you are running with thumbs up
3️⃣ Try to pull knees up to 90 degrees and keep feet flexed
I shot this at end of my session today and you can see fatigue made my firm suffer a little bit. But practice makes perfect.

Happy Monday! Just in case someone struggled over the weekend, like myself 🙋🏽‍♀️, and needed some extra motivation on this Monday especially after a holiday weekend 😜😘 something was kicking my butt over the weekend and stole my energy that I was enjoying for the past week! Thanks extreme fatigue! I had to substitute my scheduled workout for something less intense on Saturday and then Sunday I skipped a workout due to my fatigue (it wasn't a day to push myself). I struggled quite a bit. So here's to a new week! Glasses up y'all! 🥂

Pull Day was an unexpected success. Started with some Deadlifts today that went rather well. I worked up to this set of 545 x 4 REPS Which was about a RPE 8.5. Prior to this set I did 405 x 5 and 495 x 3. I intended on doing a 3 x 5,3,1 with my last set being 585, but decided to go for 545 instead. While doing the deadlifts I didn’t get hype or anything, I just acted like I was lifting feathers. A lot of people like to get hype and yell and all that jazz, but all that does is waste energy that you could be conserving to use for your set and possible reps that you could have got. But who am I though. 🤷🏾‍♂️
