On y parle français ?

👊🏾 #lecture #NoireNestPasMonMetier #actress #aissamaiga #maimounagueye #nadegebeaussondiagne #MataGabin #SaraMartins #FirmineRichard #RachelKhan #SabinePakora #EyeHaïdara #SoniaRolland #MagaajiyaSilberfeld #KaridjaTouré #FranceZobda #ShirleySouagnon #SoniaRolland #MariePhilomeneNga #AssaSylla #stereotypes #collectif #racisme #histoire #temoignage #comedienne #actrice #mer #travel #photography

Regrann from @aissamaiga - Thank you @hollywoodreporter for this article and for making our voices resonate up to the other side of the Atlantic.
Together we stand, as black women in the french film industry, to give a voice to the voiceless and to claim that diversity and inclusion must be the norm, especially in a multicultural society such as France.

I grew up in France, yes, I am "parisienne" but I kinda lost the accent 😂
My childhood was filled with a LOT of TV and trip to the movie theaters.
For a brief period of time, I wanted to be a movie critic just to have an excuse to go to Cannes Festival
Honestly, it was mainly for the fancy outfits and watch movies for free 😂
The small and big screen were not only an escape for a chubby bullied girl, but they truly opened my mind and my vision to the world. It was Ok to be and think differently.
People with tattoos or piercings aren't automatically criminals (my parents didn't know better 😂)
So, as a movie goer one of the thing that always bothered me and my mother as well was the stereotypical portrait of black women.
We have so many beautiful layers and unfortunately we still need to be educated.
I can't wait to read these testimonies.
Merci @aissamaiga

Award-winning Senegalese-French actress, Aissa Maiga led a historical forum alongside 15 fellow Actresses, focused on inclusion and portrayals of African actresses in the French film industry. The African women and women of the diaspora were all glamorously dressed in designs by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. The women will be holding a discussion to unpack the negative, stereotypical roles of black women in French cinema and lack thereof black women present in the industry and are also featured in Maïga's upcoming book, ‘Black Is Not a Profession’.
