When did you fall in love with hip hop?
It was 1984 and I heard "Reckless" by @icet. That was it. The 808s have been present ever since.
As a little girl in a suburb in Southwest Ohio, there was nothing in my life that sounded ANYthing like any of the lyrics I spent hours learning, year in and year out.
(Oops! I think I've still got a few more years of being grounded for listening to 2Live Crew way too loud in 8th grade.)
It wasn't until I was older that I really appreciated it, though. Ok let's be honest, it wasn't until I was older that I even really knew anything about it. And it wasn't until I knew the history and loved the classics, that I knew how to respect the culture.
It's more than a beat. It's more than words that rhyme.
So I'll ask you again, when did you fall in love with hip hop?
