Helen Keller wrote the essay, “Three Days to See.” Her inspiration for the essay came from a discussion she had with a friend who had just come back from an hour-long walk in the woods. Keller asked her friend to give her details of what she saw and the friend replied, “Nothing in particular.” Keller WONDERED how it was possible to walk through the woods and see nothing worthy of note.
In her essay, she ONLY asks for 3 days of SIGHT, so she can FINALLY see the world around her. And WE take it for granted EVERY DAY.
She says, “USE your eyes today as if tomorrow you will be blind. HEAR the music of voices, the song of bird, the mighty strains of an orchestra, as if you will be deaf tomorrow. TOUCH each object as if tomorrow your tactile sense will fail. SMELL the perfume of the flowers, TASTE and relish each morsel, AS IF tomorrow you will never SMELL AND TASTE again. MAKE the most of every sense; glory in all the facets of pleasure and beauty which the world reveals to you.”
- THIS is so powerful. I appreciate EVERYTHING and I take nothing for granted. I’m grateful for EVERY moment.
I went for a walk this morning around my neighborhood. And THESE are some of my sights. LIVE your life to the fullest. YOU never know when pieces of you WILL vanish, and you’ll be sad you took that all for granted.
Remember. I Love You. All.❤️
(And if you get a chance to read her essay, and REREAD it over and over, it will change your perspective on some of the petty stuff.)
