It's all about the anecdotes & those quirky moments that make the travel fun&memorable, I would say. Darjan @darjanbizupic , on the other hand would rather go without the unpleasant surprises & unplanned, unexpected situations which is highly impossible to avoid in these coloured streets of Marseille. As the streets have one hundred faces, so do the people of Marseille. You have to be ready for their southern temperament, the mixture of nations in Marseille and their lack of English language knowledge. It is true that French language knowledge takes you to a more original and immersed sphere of experiencing Marseille, the French culture in general and their mentality. One lesson that we learned very well in Marseille is NOT to use Uber. The story goes like this : After Sunday morning Marseille sightseeing we returned to our hotel and decided to call Uber to take us to the cruise ship terminal. After making the arrangement, waiting for some longer time (20 minutes) & having a phone conversation with the driver, the driver finally came. She jumped out of her black Mercedes all tatooed and was extremely surprised that we have suitcases, claimed that it does not fit in the car and refused to take us for a ride. She knew very well that we are hotel clients and that we are going to the cruise port. Would it be logical to count on the fact that we will have luggage? After the first shock and realizing that we are under time pressure, we decided to ask the receptionist for assistance. He called a taxi that came straightaway and told us the story about Uber drivers in Marseille. In short, Uber drivers are not safe in Marseille, Uber is not legal there and even the prices are higher than the taxi prices. It takes the Uber drivers long time to come to the city centre because they usually live and work in the outer, poorer quarters and it is often to expect that they had earlier problems with law, police or prison.
For all those who are not that fond of street art, I promise that this is the last graffiti post, for now, at least from Marseille.
