I’ve always had the intimidating pleasure of climbing with people who make 5.12 and 5.13 routes look deceivingly easy. Or as easy as really dynamic moves on really tiny holds ever is. You know, the climbers with 15-inch circumference forearms, fingers that could shatter your “#1 Dad” ceramic mug, and really smelly shoes. But when I started climbing a couple years ago, I had to start at the beginning, the WAY beginning. Yet after a month back in the gym, I finally finished TWO 5.10- routes. It may not have come smoothly or naturally (yet) but I absolutely love the way climbing challenges your mind and body while keeping your ego in check, your fears at bay, and your friends close.
Not to be outdone, Laura crushed her first 5.9 after only climbing a couple times ever. She attributes her success to her push-up and yoga routine but I tend to think it’s her undying perseverance to succeed and be a better person. Which I find kind of crazy considering how great of a person she already is. 😊
