💥BODYWEIGHT FINISHERS💥

Add any of these to your current routine or program. I like throwing these in towards the end of my workout periodically. I call these exercises “thinkers” because the mind and muscle must communicate with each other in order to ensure efficient movement. It also forces me to be mindful of movements as fatigue starts to set in towards the end of the workout.

I am not prescribing this particular routine to anybody but simply demonstrating a way in which you can execute it. Take from this what you need and like and apply it to your own program. Message me if you have any questions.

1️⃣Alternating toe touches to crab reach
◾️Assume a good crab position with your arms straight, hands below the shoulders, and legs out in front of you at 90 degrees with the heels beneath the knees.
◾️Kick one leg up and reach towards your toes with the opposite hand. Reach back behind and across your body as you bring the hips up into extension. Repeated for desires time and/or repetitions.
◾️Always start slow focusing on stability and control before deciding to speed up any of these movements.

2️⃣Lateral bear crawls to kick through
◾️Keep the back flat throughout with the knees 2” off the ground stacked underneath the hips and hands directly underneath the shoulders. The core should stay braced throughout trying not to lean, tilt, or shift.
◾️After you’ve reached your desired distance, lift your right arm and left leg, and rotate to your right, pivoting on your right foot as you extend your right leg straight out. Repeat on the opposite side.

Traveling for work means I have less time to work out (or none at all, cue sad trombones). Managed to squeeze in a 30-minuter before the call time this morning, and ended with a flow inspired by #AnimalFlow kween and peg-in-life @francheskafit.

The flow is slow-controlled deep ape reach/loaded beast to full-scorpion, to a pop-out for some power. One-arm things scare me, so this pop-out is a great training point for me!

Let’s talk about my favorite group of muscles.
.
The foundation for your strength and power.
.
The Core!
.
I could probably write a novel on this one, but in an effort to not get too technical and keep it short, let’s generally talk about the abdominals today.
.
Your abdominals are most effectively developed by doing any movements that involve anterior flexion (folding the front of your body).
.
Here are 3 key points:
.
1️⃣ Create enough range of motion that lengthens the muscle while still holding tension. Too long and you loose tension. Too short and you surrender range. Find the happy medium.
.
2️⃣ Mix low rep/heavy resistance exercises with high rep/body weight exercises. The abdominals are almost an even split of slow(endurance) and fast (power) twitch muscle fibers. Therefore, if you want your abs to pop, you must include exercises that tap into what those specific fibers respond to the best. Focusing on just one or the other limits your development.
.
3️⃣ BREATHE. Releasing air increases isometric tension and clears space to dive deeper into the muscle tissue. This could be one of the most important factors to remember when your goal is a strong and defined core.
.
As you know, the core includes all the muscles of the abdominals, hip flexors, obliques, erector spinae, and all the tiny contributors in-between.
.

Howard ( @bodybybowens ) and I started our session by destroying our chests with an epic Bench sequence and we ended with an awesome mobility and strength flow!
We began with a pre-exhaust set of Pushups, keeping a methodical pace with a 3 - 5 sec eccentric movement for 90 secs.

We then moved into the chest-destoyer.
Set up 3 benches, or have an adjustable bench that will allow Incline, Flat, and Decline.
Your template is as follows:
Set 1
Inc: 15 x, Flat: 10 x, Dec: 5 x
Set 2
Inc: 10 x, Flat: 5 x, Dec: 15 x
Set 3
Inc: 5 x, Flat: 15 x, Dec: 10 x

Rest 30 seconds between sets and 90 seconds after the Inc, Flat, Dec sequence.

Learning new things is fun. Clearly a work in progress (including my camera skills), but animal flow is a great way to increase mobility, flexibility, stability, power, endurance and skills. And it’s a ton of fun.

I love learning new things and learning something like this requires a lot of focus and practice. Staying off alcohol ensures I have a clear head when I practice and when I fall I have the energy to get back up and do it again.
