Regrann from @belinda_vegan - Yum bacon? This is what animal agriculture does to babies for your bacon. Open your eyes! Everytime you bite into the flesh of their corpses or drink their secretions, this is what you pay for.
On farms, piglets are taken away from their mothers when they’re less than a month old. In nature, they would stay with their mothers for several months.
Piglets’ tails are cut off, their teeth are often clipped in half, their ears are mutilated, and males’ testicles may be cut off—all without any pain relief.
They’re crammed into pens crowded with many other piglets, where they’re kept until they’re deemed large enough for slaughter. They’re given almost no room to move.
Our food choices subject millions of smart, sensitive beings to this life. After they’ve served us as breeding machines, their bodies give out after a few short years... and they’re killed, too.
And what about the pigs, who endure a level of suffering from birth to death that no compassionate person would find acceptable? “Thumping” — grabbing a baby pig by the hind legs and smashing her skull into the wall — is how sick and small ones are killed.
Breeding pigs spend most of their lives in crates only inches larger than their bodies. Crushing boredom and depression cause compulsive behaviors like head-banging.
Do you really want your choices to support such a system? We have lost control of our food choices due to the deeply troubling relationship between government and the food industry. And while government isn’t about to change the brutal, broken system that has made us one of the sickest, fattest countries in the industrialized world, we can. All we need is one simple tool: our forks.
Go vegan, friends.
