Aubri is 7 months old today and had a really rough week. Monday she was most definitely not herself and spiked a fever that night. Tuesday we went to see our pediatrician which resulted in us being sent to Seattle Children’s Hospital. Her high temp and inconsolable temperament had us and the ER doctors scratching our heads and ruling out some pretty scary illnesses. By 2am Wednesday morning we were finally taken upstairs and admitted since she wasn’t taking any bottles and only getting IV fluids. She had amazing caregivers in the ER and an awesome team of doctors on her floor and we were lucky enough to walk away with a Hand, Food, Mouth disease diagnosis. It became important for pain management and our goal was to get her to take a bottle and not be fed through her NG Tube. That first bottle finally came a 2pm Thursday and to say that moment was overwhelming is an understatement. I cried and sent the picture to Billy in the cafeteria. It was her turning point and opportunity to work toward going home. Her last bottle before that was 6am Tuesday. She came home Thursday night and we are all exhausted but on the mend. Nothing will prepare you to see your child like that and nothing will prepare you to see them hooked up to machines, tubes, and be put through test after test trying to figure out what is wrong when they can’t tell you themselves. Every single doctor, nurse, and hospital staff member went above and beyond to take care of all of us! Seattle Children’s hold their reputation for a reason and we experienced all that first hand and are beyond thankful to have them right in our backyard. Also a huge thank you to my mom and little sister who came over to help, my older sister for FaceTiming in and chatting, and to everyone who offered prayers and supported us with encouraging texts during our stay! Thank you to our church for the gift card that got us dinner outside of the cafeteria and the ladies who stopped in and prayed over Aubri. Your examples of a steadfast faith was so uplifting in that moment we needed it the most.
