Around this time three years ago I was planning my own #babyshower when I was pregnant with my daughter.
When pregnant with our first child we didn’t have a home or money so there wasn’t anything close to a shower or party.
With baby number two my wonderful next door neighbour & girlfriend in WeHo threw me a small intimate surprise party in her apartment with only a few dear friends, which was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for me.
So when we found out we were expecting a third time I made up my mind to have that lavish shower just ONCE but I knew I’d have to do it myself. Because there was no one who would do it for me - in fact, I was told I shouldn’t waste money on it.
This is not to say that there aren’t loving caring people, or women, in my life. My mother is absolutely wonderful but it isn’t her forte to organize that sort of thing and the hubbie is all I could wish for but he, too, isn’t great at creative party planning. So what they did was tell me they’d pay for whatever I wished for, I’d get the things I needed and they’d do anything to help plan and put things into action with me. Which is what we did.
We ended up having a #DisneyPrincess party - baby pink hues and lots of fluff and tulle. N. went and bought what felt like a gazillion gorgeous Esperanza roses from Munich’s Viktualienmarkt on the morning of my party and my mother helped bake and decorate dozens of pink cup cakes and cake pops.
We had pink lemonade, fancy iced tea and strawberry milk.
It was a small affair- but some of my favourite people in the world were there and it will be a memory forever captured in my heart.
The reason why I choose to write about it with these images of my daughter Aurora is very simple:
If you set your mind and heart on something, go ahead and do it! Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t. Don’t be discouraged because no one will “do it for you”. Don’t sit and pout but get your ass up and do it for yourself.
Often when no one believes in you or your ideas, nor wants to support you it is that initiative and the energy you create by taking the lead and following through on what you want that ignites others’ interest and brings people together.
