Do you ever have one of those days that’s just kind of “shit”? You spilled coffee, got stuck in traffic, yelled at by the boss AGAIN, can’t afford that holiday you really want, things seem to be overwhelming you and now you’re feeling unmotivated and down in the dumps. You just want to go home, eat pizza, and watch Netflix in bed.
We all have a bad day sometimes. It’s part of life. The important part is how we react to it. Will we choose to learn from the bad day or wallow in it? If you’re having a day like that (or many days like that), you’re not alone. We’ve all had bad days — it’s part of life. It’s not so much the bad events of the day themselves that are causing the problem. It’s the negative feelings that accompany them. The feelings of not being “good enough”. The lack of motivation. The desire to just give up. If we dwell on these emotions, we’re liable to stress ourselves out, which isn’t good for our health and well-being!
This is where I find this picture of one of our friends we met in Afghanistan, about 5 years old and it’s a helpful reminder that my or your bad day is not a sign of failure. It’s just a bad day, plain and simple.
He is no older than my son and the thought of what he goes through keeps me going when I feel like throwing in the towel, and to experience something like what this little man and many others around the world does every day is humbling.
Take a moment and look at what you have - friends, a roof over your head, family, clean water and food - he and many others in this world have none of that! To him you are rich beyond what he can believe in.
So have your rant about how life is not fair and get on with it!! Nothing is more beautiful than the smile that has struggled through the tears.
