Erm.. debated posting this but I know I need to be accountable if I want to change. Behold! My weekend. After comparing my intake to my TDEE, I definitely gained back that pound I lost😕 maybe even half a pound more than that. But I don’t feel guilty or angry at myself. This weekend taught me just HOW EASY it is to put calories in than getting rid of them. I know that is a universally well known concept, but going through the motions this weekend gave me a louder wake up call. 👇🏾
Lesson(s): I struggle most with binge eating at night. I think it’s mostly due to boredom. My “high carb” day was also not well planned. I was out the house all day Saturday and ended up eating tonsss of fries and by the end of the night I was just a carb fiend.

Bouncing back: tomorrow I’m going back to my routine. I’m going to try out internment fasting this week. I’ve been pushing it back for a while now. But I think it would help with the late night cravings if I had large meals in a short span of time. That way I can resemble a binge, but on healthier, macro friendly foods. Also, I’ve started a daily calorie tracker, separate from mfp. I’ve basically calculated 3500*128 (my weight before the weekend) and added the calories over my tdee from the weekend. Then I divided that number by 3500. That’s how I know I’ve gained about 1.5lbs (haven’t checked the scale as I know it might trigger and/or be inaccurate bc of sodium, water retention, etc). I’m going to continue looking at my weight less from the standpoint of pounds and more from a caloric perception. This I’m hoping will help me see calories a bit more different when I’m rushing to the grocery store for binges.

Following up on my last post. So now you know what carbs are here’s some examples of the calorie content of popular carb choices.

Learning roughly what calories are in a cup or a serving of food can help massively with moving into a more intuitive way of eating. Portion sizing tends to be the thing most people struggle with when trying to eat more intelligently to meet their goals.

These 100kcal options are great to memorise for easy meal building.
.
For example I know I need to eat about 2 of those servings in my meals to maintain my weight. If I want to gain then I need to increase my portion size by another serving across all meals. I may not even need to touch protein or fats with this method, I could just adjust my carbs to suit my new rough calorie goal. It’s not a one size fits all method by any means, but it is an easy, very general, strategy you could follow if you have decent understanding of your body and don’t fancy macro tracking constantly.

You can’t go wrong with any of these options, but regardless I always use organic eggs from pasture-raised chickens (PR Eggs). This is because the nutritional value of eggs depends on the hen’s diet. I constantly hear that people still don’t have options at their local stores to buy eggs from pasture-raised chickens, and therefore don’t get the extra nutrients and benefits they provide (Listed below👇🏼). So I’m always directing them online to source their proteins, and for eggs I recommend @chinovalleyranchers as a source. It’s always good when you can go online & check the company’s practices for raising animals, and they do it right. “It’s not what you eat, it’s what you eat ate.”

1. #caloriesmatter regardless of approach - it’s called #energybalance and simply stated if you are at a positive energy balance (more energy in than out), you’ll gain weight (fat and/or muscle). If you are at a negative energy balance (less energy in than out) you’ll lose weight (fat and/or muscle)

2. #qualitycalories matter and that begins with refined, engineered, and highly processed foods being eliminated from whatever ideology you follow with respect to diet!!

Doing some slight offsetting from Saturday night...🍾🥪🍷. Always a good time.

Probably the simplest and easiest meal I’ve had in a while, rotisserie chicken 🍗 and a giant salad. Shoutout to @wholefoods.

Salad 🥗 - mixed greens, cucumbers 🥒, tomatoes 🍅, red onion, carrots 🥕, radishes, watermelon 🍉, strawberries 🍓, pumpkin 🎃 nuts 🥜 and almonds. Summer in a bowl.

For dessert?

Strawberries and a few large grapefruits.
