Aguilas Del Desierto is a non-profit 501(c) 3
Once a month Ely and his trial tested team, a group that has members from Arizona, San Diego and Los Angeles, lead volunteers through the dessert using information provided to them by U.S. Border Patrol as well as meticulous GPS planning. They assemble early saturday morning so as to get an early start trekking through the desert then camp overnight and trek back to be home sunday night.
Each trip cost Aguilas del Desierto Inc. an estimated $1,500 in food, water, adequate footing, transportation, basic camping gear and medical supplies. Money that comes from small donations that they gather at local swap meets, and the rest out of their own pockets.
The work that Aguilas del Desierto Inc. does along the Mexican-American border ascends politics and race in that their mission began with the search for family, and that is exactly what they continue to do today in their efforts to find fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters who have fallen victim to necessity and in some cases needless violence that of which leaves heavy and hard work both physically and mentally for a group of friends and volunteers.
