Mad Giant was recently crowned the Grand Champion (overall Best Beer) and got the award for Best Pale Ale for its Killer Hop at the 2018/2019 African Beer Awards. What an achievement! We can be super proud of this Jozi-based craft brewery! 🍺
They have now set their sights on a new challenge, to eradicate single-use plastic waste. What an initiative, and it is absolutely the responsible thing to do! Last night on the last day of the “Dead by” stamp I thought I’d try an experiment (I’ve done before with other beers) - On the left: Half the SWYD IIPA through a wine aerator and on the right: Normal SWYD IIPA.
I hit up the normal one first as I wanted to see how it tasted at the end of 8 weeks - I love the slightly malted nose with touches of treacle and a big, smooth, creamy mango and peach flavour throughout. It has a slightly bitter citrus/grapefruit finish. The residual alcohol taste afterward is still present. I’ve had stronger percentage beers before that don’t have as much residual alcohol BUT it’s still a great beer!
Now the aerated version: A creamier head on this one with a malty nose BUT it has more tropical fruit present in it. Now here’s a funny outcome, it has a cigar/burnt toast aftertaste instead of the alcohol 🤔 interesting... The lingering flavours also remind me when you bite into a seeded grape 🍇 and get the seeds if you know what I mean? It’s much creamier, less tropical but the alcohol is less prominent. Which is better? I’m going to say the original BUT I recommend giving it time to breathe!

This tasted more like juice than beer... but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Frooted: Peach/Pineapple/Passionfruit by @morebrewing hits your taste buds hard with all 3 fruit flavors. Quite a delicious brew. Vote for More Brewing for @chicagosbesttv best brewery of 2018!
