This weather though... all cold and gray in mid August has me taking hot baths, short naps, and long stretches on the mat.
In the mornings, before tea or ashtanga, I take quiet time to stretch and feel my body, mind, and breath. This is the time that is most precious to me because it sets the tone for my whole day. I always finish with a little bit of time to sit in silence.
Here are some tips for those of you looking to begin a meditation practice:
1) forget your goals and ideas of what meditation should look or feel like
2) just sit. In a comfortable way, in a quiet place.
3) watch your thoughts the way the sky would watch the clouds. Interested, and receptive, but not really involved.
4) whenever you get distracted and involved in your thinking, take a full breath and come back to the practice of watching.
