“The rainforests of Indonesia are awe-inspiring, home to some of the most biologically diverse forests in the world — 10% of the world’s known plants and 12% of all mammals. Forests are also our biggest defense against climate change by helping to regulate CO2 levels in the atmosphere. ⠀⠀
These forests are being destroyed to grow palm oil, an ingredient used by big brands to produce products including Dove soap and Colgate toothpaste.
Rainforest destruction for palm oil is a disaster for wildlife, people, and our climate. These precious forests are essential to the very survival of one of the last orangutan habitats in the world, and vital for solving climate change. As the planet heats up and we see more extreme weather events happening across the globe, we need to be doing all we can to save Indonesia’s rainforests.
In 2010, Greenpeace forced some of the world’s biggest consumer goods companies in the world to pledge to end their role in deforestation. They promised that by 2020 they would no longer be buying forest-destroying palm oil. ⠀⠀
But brands haven’t delivered. We must get brands to stick to their word and make sure that they don’t use palm oil that is fueling forest destruction.
Please take the first step by adding your voice to our petition. Greenpeace never takes a dime from corporations or governments. Everything we do is thanks to the generous support of people like you!”
