DMZ (Downtown Militarized Zone)
FASA 1990. Boxset. Two Booklets, floorplans and cardboard standups.
DMZ is a rather clever and well produced box set that allows players to slug it out over Bars, Clubs and a whole host of other less than pleasant locations with a tight set of rules and great maps. Produced very early in the Shadowrun line, DMZ still maintains some of the clunkiness of the combat system that would be ironed out in SRII, but that being said provides an easy to pick up rules set that allows combats of half a dozen or so antagonists a side with relative ease. Shadowrun RPG GMs who wanted to put a complicated firefight as a highlight to a session or story needed to look no further than DMZ. The maps are extremely well rendered and are full of awesome minor detail, the archetypes booklet is chock full of ready made stat lines for all sorts of pc and npc type, adding to the pick up and play benefit of this box. I went whole hog back in the day and bought the minis too, so never needed to cut down the cardboard sheets included, but even then used this box only a handfull of times in an RPG session and even then, only as maps as visual guide, no minis. I played DMZ as a firefight game quite a few times, sticking to whatever minis I genuinely had and enjoyed it alot. To GMs using any other set of SR rules, there is a bit of conversion work to do, but the quality maps make this box worth seeking out nonetheless. Fantastic product from a company in its heyday.
