This is my “covering up the fact that I just dropped a 45 lb plate on my toe” face. ♀️ Does anyone else have a habit of hurting themselves when they’re in the middle of a super great workout? ♀️ #ugh
Not gonna lie I’m currently nursing a pretty hefty food baby after downing a large bowl of chickpea pasta & all da goods to make up for lower intake earlier in the day today butttt I wanted to talk ab something that I struggle with, and I’m sure several of my female followers struggle with as well and dat is BLOATING.
I used to get super down on myself whenever I woke up w/o being able to see washboard abs, I would then restrict in hopes that it would result in a flat tummy 24/7 but that just ain’t how it works ♀️... I’ve realized that the key to see consistent progress in that area is eating wholesome food and working on my compound lifts more than anything else bc those engage your core!
Going into a bit more detail, I find that hormones and my menstrual cycle play a huge role in how much definition I can see in my abdominal area over the course of a month. Sometimes I feel light and toned, other days I wake up feeling bogged down and a little fluffy depending on my water retention. The easiest way for me to deal with this is by drinking plenty of water, being careful ab sodium intake & of course reminding myself this it is ~temporary~ and does NOT detract from the growth that I have seen.
In short, don’t beat yoself up, it happens and the best thing you can do is go about your day remembering you’re a boss ass bish, w/ a 6 pack or not ♀️
