My first real celebration of #internationalbenchpressday (aka Monday) since my shoulder injury: I worked up to 115% BWx2x2 (with spot). I was aware of the shoulder but no pain. Maybe I will get back to 100kg after all....

How many times do we hear people say that (or something similar) at the start of a New Year? And sadly, for many of us, it ends up being nothing more than empty words and false promises. We may act for a few weeks but eventually the realization of how hard it actually is to change your life hits home and we give up and we settle for the easy, comfortable option and we don’t stretch ourselves… and ultimately this does nothing but make us feel worse in the long run… and this cycle continues year after year…

One of the things I ask clients to do at the beginning of a program is to look back over the past 12 months and think of the successes and the things that didn’t go so well, in all areas of their life.

We need to know where we are starting from to know where we want to get to…
.
.
Once that is done, the next step is to plan for the future. If this is going to be the best year of your life, what will it look like? .
.
The reality is, every year has its good and bad bits. Many of them we have no control over. And even the bits we do control, as humans we often fall short…
.
.
Beating yourself up does not set you up for success. It’s the self-fulfilling prophecy. “I knew I couldn’t do it…”
.
.
We all go through ups and downs, especially when trying to transform our health. There is no easy way around it.
.
.
Even the most successful people go through challenging times but what separates them from the rest is the ability to accept those challenges, learn from them and no matter what, continue to move forward. That’s the only difference. .
.
And that’s the only way you can make this your best year ever… by committing to changing your lifestyle, your habits and by deciding that no matter what, you won’t give up.
.
.
So, make the most of this moment; take control of what you can control and use the momentum and excitement you have right now to take action. But understand that at some point that will fade and you must then have the courage and the strength to keep going…Commit to persevering through it all, the highs and the lows. .

On December 31st, 2019 what is it that will make you look back and feel proud? Do that. 😊
