ALBUM REVIEW - @snowpatrol // Wilderness
Snow Patrol recently ended their 7 year hiatus with the release of their new LP, 'Wilderness.' ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Snow Patrols latest album is their most personal yet. In the years that followed the release of their 2011 album 'Fallen Empire' lead singer Gary Lightbody hasn’t had a smooth run. He's fought depression, writers-block and alcoholism. In the end though, he's emerged triumphant on the other side of the tunnel. Lightbody's recovery runs through this record, creating an emotional and beautiful experience.
Lightbody and co construct a truly stunning track with 'What If This Is All the Love You Ever Get?' the vulnerability in his voice alone is enough to leave a lump in your throat; let alone the songs meaning. 'Soon' is another incredibly moving inclusion, addressing Lightbody's dementia-stricken father. 'Don't Give In' is the clear standout from the album. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Originally it was penned to tell the story of a friend going through a tough time, before Gary realised the song was actually better suited to the struggles he had faced. In the end, the single became the talisman for the whole LP. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Snow Patrol pick up exactly where they left off. Creating exceptional music through beautiful storytelling.
