1st YEAR DOWN, FOREVER TO GO!
A HUGE thank you to everyone that had part in making 2 Feet 1 Goal a success! It has been exactly one year since “the launch.” This past year, the donations raised enough money to fully fund a football tournament and support a football academy, both in Africa. I tried to tag everyone but we had well over 100 donors. Thank you to all and here's the quick recap:
The tournament was the first ever “Community Independence Cup” held in Masaka, Uganda. There were 16 teams, 480 players and 9 official referees. The winner received a cow and 2nd, 3rd and 4th place all took home a goat. There was a women’s exhibition game and the winner of that also received a goat. The crowd for each match continued to grow so big that the playoffs were moved to a different location. Pastor Ronnie, from Rock Church, gave a sermon during the halftime final that lead to over 300 salvations. Literally, thousands of lives were touched through this tournament!
In addition to the tournament, monies raised went towards two sets of uniforms, practice shirts, balls, bags, cones and equipment for the Grace Gomez Soccer Academy (GGSA). Our Founder, Leah Grace Dawson, had the chance to travel to Africa and personally take coach Kato Erimiah (along with board member Kizza Daudi) to the sports store and purchase some of these items. This was Leah’s 3rd time meeting with the coaches and 2nd time playing football with the kids from.
Again, none of this would have happened without support from all of you. Whether it was a donation, time spent helping, sharing the post or telling your friends, it all made a difference. Thank you!
