Ieri sera sono arrivati gli assaggi da parte di @crossfoodasmedicine di alcuni prodotti che assaggerò sia per valutarne l'utilizzo con i miei pazienti che per i miei ragazzi. In particolare proverò il pane paleo naturalmente privo di glutine e ricco di proteine, la torta al cioccolato pensata per chi ha problemi intestinali, le chips di platano e i chicchi di chufa pelada o zigolo dolce, ideale per chi ha problemi di autoimmunità.

Quando mi chiedete perchè non sorrido se in visita mi dite che "si dottoressa ho iniziato a mangiare sempre verdura ai pasti: l'insalata di valeriana o lattughino"; ecco qui una parte della risposta che vi vorrei dare. I polifenoli, di cui gli alimenti vegetali sono ricchi, giocano un ruolo molto importante nel migliorare la funzionalità del nostro sistema immunitario, e non solo. Una funzione immunitaria regolare è fondamentale per la salute di tutto il nostro essere e non possiamo garantire il giusto apporto di polifenoli assumendo un ristretto numero di verdure. Non dimenticate, infine, che il buon funzionamento del sistema immunitario non può prescindere da un intestino sano e, anche per quanto guarda questo aspetto, il consumo di una adeguata quantità di verdura è importante. Sometimes I get inspired in the kitchen and meal prep is a masterpiece. Most of the time it is a hodge podge of what I have in the fridge. Items that make no sense in combination and taste just so-so together. Frozen meat or dried beans cooked in the #InstantPot (a crucial gadget for people who aren't good planners). Functional eating. Always lots of veggies but lots of times they are frozen. Good complex carbs to fuel my workout and to get me through toddler meltdowns that require 5 outfit changes.

EAT MORE PROTEIN & FIBRE.

INCORPORATE PROTEIN IN EVERY MEAL AND SNACK.

Protein enriched eating has been shown to increase satisfaction and reduce cravings. Research has also shown that this method of eating can support long-term weight loss.

FIBRE. EAT YOUR VEGETABLES.

A fibre rich diet has been shown to enhance weight loss and support weight management. Fibre affects satiety in different ways but primarily bulks out the meal with healthful foods that are less energy-dense and higher NUTRIENT-DENSE promoting optimum health.

Fibre can slow down gastric emptying, increase the feeling of being full and can impact hormone release signalling satisfaction.

Practical ideas:

Serve each meal with a large salad

Enjoy at least two servings of vegetables at each meal

Eat vegetable sticks / crudités with hummus for snacks (protein and fibre combination)

Smoothies with vegetables (read my post on adding greens to your diet)

Step 1- Make your carb source ahead, pack in containers, place in fridge or freezer (quinoa, amaranth, rice, boiled potato,grain free pasta). This step is optional.

Step 2 - Divide Larder into sections for Indian, Italian,Chinese etc spices and seasonings

Step 3- Rotate the veg(more of) and meat(less of) you buy to get in the full range of nutrients

Cooking time: Decide what kinda flavour you want(Indian/Chinese/British etc)Pick the veg and/or meat you fancy. Add organic extra virgin olive oil to pan, throw in garlic and/onions,veg and/or meat, chosen seasonings/spices. Stir fry. Serve up with warmed bowl of carb source above. Make sure your veg/meat portion is 3x more than your carb portion

I've never calorie counted in my life. The focus should be to eat healthy food in smaller portions. Practice conscious eating. Don't overeat when the food is tasty. Train yourself to recognize how much food you need to make you 'just full'. Don't waste food

In the evening we went for a jolly-good-malayalee-meal 😆 in Maharani Restaurant, Preston. I've been dying to eat-out good South Indian food since moving to the UK. My dream has come true ❤. When I bit into cardamom in my curry, that flavour rushed a million childhood diwalis through my brain. Cardamom was a flavour central across all my favourite Indian food- chicken curry, kesari, payasam. Diwali in my mouth ⚡🔥😊❤
