The pain of the process is only temporary. Work hard. Make it count. Working w @coach_marty_runs has already proven valuable. I had a sort of break through, this morning, about what has been holding me back. Now, he has the difficult job of helping me work through it and, to hopefully get past it 🤞🏼 Solid miles on the track today! At the end, I got caught in a down pour that I was not expecting. It rained HARD, but only for about 5ish mins. Once it let up a little, the rain felt cool and refreshing 🙌🏼 Miles looked like this:

Most of you know I learned to swim much later in life. I had never put my face in the water to swim until I was 38 years old. And for a very long time I had terrible anxiety in open water. Even though I had finally mastered swimming in the pool, I would still panic putting my face in the water for an OWS. At races, I would end up breast stroking and doggy paddling to the finish! It took me getting out with a group a couple times a week before I could get comfortable. Ironman Texas 70.3 was the first race I really swam without panicking. And the swim at Ironman Texas 140.6 was my favorite part! I have grown to have a real love of swimming in the open water. So if you are just beginning or still struggling with anxiety in the OWS, keep at it and keep the faith. You CAN do this!!
My biggest piece of advice is get out there as often as you can to practice. Don’t let your only OWS be race day.
I’m trying out the @theswimit device. You wear it on your thigh, and it’s very comfortable. If you are in distress you pull the cord and it inflates into a life jacket. It is USAT and WTC race legal. It has saved lives!! The Dead Bench Press is designed to build power off the chest. Because you begin the lift from the chest with no eccentric portion, you have no stretch reflex to help you initiate the drive upward. This lift requires much greater work out of your pectorals to start the lift from a dead stop. The Primary muscles groups used are the Pectorals and the Secondary Muscle groups used are your Delts and Triceps. The key to the dead bench is to channel as much instantaneous power as possible without the assistance of the stretch reflex. You do this by tightening your body using your bench press technique, and press up with everything you have got. As the weight gets heavy and you tire it is common that the bar may not budge initially. Keep pressing up for at least 3-5 seconds to overcome inertia before giving up on the attempt.

Going in hard back to back, first is a close grip T-Bar row second is a bent over single arm row both the exercises work on your back also includes your lats, teres major or "little lat," trapezius and erector spinae. They also work your shoulders and the pulling muscles in your arms so your biceps, brachialis and brachioradialis. Your abdominals, hamstrings and glutes must also fire to help stabilize your body in the bent-over position as you lift.

Plyometric training refers to explosive compound movements, commonly done with bodyweight or very light loads such as plyo pushups, box jumps, and jump squats. The goal is to train for maximum force production in the smallest period of time, so reps are kept low and the intensity and effort is high. To train explosiveness, you have to perform each movement as explosively as you possibly can. That means leaving the ground.The body’s muscular system is made up of fast- and slow-twitch muscle fibers. The fast-twitch fibers are the largest, strongest fibers in our body. They are trained through heavy lifting, anaerobic efforts, and explosive movements. This is contrary to their slow-twitch counterparts, which are typically geared toward endurance, and aren’t as high in absolute strength. Plyometric training focuses on increasing the strength and efficiency of the fast-twitch fibers. Translating this to the weight room for your heavy sets means greater involvement of your muscles’ strongest fibers for your lifts, which results in speed and strength gains.

The neutral-grip bench press is an upper body exercise that strengthens the chest, shoulders, and triceps. The neutral-grip places emphasis on the triceps and upper chest while also reducing strain placed on the shoulder joints that you may get from a normal bench press. If you don’t have access to a Swiss Bar at your gym you can try this exercise using dumbbells and get the same results!
