GROWTH THROUGH PAIN
It’s pretty easy to stay with our spiritual practice when things are travelling smoothly and life is good. .
It’s not so easy when life throws us a big pile of mud. Patience, kindness, acceptance, and self reflection are not easy to cultivate when you are hurt, grieving, sad and fearful. .
I get it. Sometimes life makes you want to scream and simply close the door on the hurt and challenge in front of you. To ignore it. To pretend it’s not happening or to get angry, bitter, resentful and ‘why me’
But these moments are why we have a spiritual practice, are why we don’t hide and run away and are when we can look most deeply at our reactions and learn from them. These are the moments to more than ever before lean towards presence, openness, love and compassion. But we all need reminders sometimes. . .
These beautiful words from Marianne Williamson sure helped me this week..
“Where do we go with the upset? What do we do with the emotions that are rolling inside us? The answer is, we feel them. We do not seek to escape the upset. We stay with what’s happening and let these emotions run through us. We must be in this moment. And as we do, we will change. These feelings and experiences will alchemise something deep inside us. I can feel it happening within myself. Something gigantic is being born in me, some universal mother, some ancient priestess who is howling at the wind and knows that the wind will obey. Trust the reconfiguration of your soul. If you have a sleepless night thinking about all of this, know that millions of others are sleepless too. We will harness our goodness and activate our goodness and make political our goodness. We will rise to the occasion and our goodness will prevail.”
