Beaches & Berries ✌️ - I have lived in the Okanagan for most of my life, and have never tried a Saskatoon berry that was not in pie or jam. Well, that sure changed this weekend. I shoved these yummy fruits in my face by the handful.😉
- This amazing superfood, also known as Juneberry, grows wild and abundantly, and have nearly double the antioxidants as blueberries and far exceed Gogi.
There are not hard to find either. The trees lined the sides of the roads, branches loaded with clusters. We even found a tree loaded at the park. What a perfect evening, beach, family time, and foraging. 💜

Day 4 of cleanse... I called this “kitchen sink curry” because, well you know! 😂

Fruity Carrot Loaf being made in the @thejnoosa kitchen. I use my Thermomix to do all the major “work “ such as chopping the carrots and dried apricots, whipping the butter and honey, beating the eggs, and milling the raw almonds for almond meal. Then each batch is transferred to the large planetary mixer where spices and bicarb soda are added. Each loaf tin is filled and weighed on the tmx before baking in the combi oven. Home kitchens should be designed like commercial kitchens with large benches, huge sinks, and dishwashers that take 60 seconds for a full cycle. Why aren’t they?

Ready for the week 😳
So thankful my husband helped me wash and chop all of the fruits and veggies. Day one Whole30 starts to tomorrow. Our menu is planned.
Monday: Grilled Pork Chops with Watermelon Salad
Tuesday: Chili (I know it’s summer but my kids like it 🤷🏻‍♀️)
Wednesday: Chicken Fajita Bake
Thursday: Twice Baked Mexican Potato’s
Friday: Bacon Wrapped Grilled Chicken
Lunches will be leftovers and chicken salad. Plus fruits and veggies galore!
So much preparation. It’s hard but going to be worth it for all four of us.

HOLY HECKIN BOB!!! This summer recipe is a major #GOOOOAAAALLLLLL ⚽️ Purposely ate this dill potato salad out of a small bowl because I cannot put it down. It’s that darn good!!! I tweaked the recipe a bit & omitted the salt & added some chopped white onion. Still a #hit 🥇 🥔🌿Dill Potato Salad With Radishes & Peas 🌿🥔 Ingredients:

1 1/2 lb small (new) potatoes
1 tsp salt
8 radishes, very thinly sliced
1 cup green peas
1/4 cup dill, finely chopped

Dressing:
1/4 cup tahini
2 tbsp water
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tbsp dill
2 tbsp chives
Salt and pepper

Directions:

Place a medium-sized pot on the heat with a steaming basket and add two inch-es of water.
Place the potatoes in the pot, cover and cook until soft, about 30-40 minutes. Drain and let cool.
In a large bowl, combine the potatoes, radishes, peas and dill.
Make the dressing by blending together tahini, water, lemon juice, dill, chives, salt and pepper. Sprouted Mungbean, Avocado, Walnut & Celery Winter Salad. Salad Dressing: Lemon, @melrosehealth avocado oil & turmeric. Served at room temperature 😋.
Winter Salad: 🥗

2 Cups Sprouted Mungbeans
1/2 Cup diced celery
1 handful of activated walnuts
A few cashews don’t hurt
1/2 Avocado diced
2 tablespoon Hemp Seeds
A sprinkle of @melrose flaxseed.

Dressing:
In a jar...
•Lemon juice to your taste
•Avocado Oil
•1/2 - 1 tspn Turmeric. Turmeric is tri-doshic 👌 (depends on your taste
•1/4 Ground Fennel (good for pitta, use spices to suit your dosha) •Pinch or two Himalayan Sea Salt •Pinch or two of ground black pepper to help absorption of turmeric, not too much for pitta or Vata - Kaphas, knock yourself out.
Shake. Shake. Pour. Mix. Eat at room temperature 😋

I finally identified another mushroom! Spotted them a mile away while I was mountain biking. I coincidentally had a minor crash on the same ride. Lol. I didn’t know what they were at the time, but I picked a few of them, I tried to save them in my cooler, but it didn’t stay cold enough for the whole weekend. Well, next time i will eat them right away because I now know what they are. Well, at least to me they look like Golden Chanterelles, don’t quote me on that, but they look unmistakable. On the same trip, I found Lobster mushrooms,but of course I wasn’t sure what it was then either. I just need to carry a book with me at all times!

If there’s one thing I can recommend, it’s to be a tourist in your own city! We often get into such a routine and do the same things over and over. Go to the same restaurants, same grocery store, same running route, same workout class. We’re running on auto pilot and don’t even realize. I guarantee there’s so many hidden gems in your city — go find them! I finally made it to the SOWA farmers market today & I biked there! I always walk everywhere. I ended up biking for an hour and found my new favorite market 🌞

I was on the birth control pill from the ages of 15-19, and near the end of those few years I started becoming a different person. I had crazy mood swings, got into depressive states easily, was extremely jealous + irrational, had countless yeast infections, and practically non-existent libido. I was so crazy and not like myself, that it was starting to affect my relationship to the point that I was scared Arthur wanted to leave me🙈 it's funny now but it was awful at the time. After doing a ton of research trying to figure out what it could be, I decided to take myself off of the pill. For so long I thought it was just "my life now" and I felt so alone/ashamed, but in reality it was the synthetic hormones.

Long term consumption of synthetic hormones alters our brain chemistry and can have serious side effects and health risks down the road, such as depression, severe nutrient deficiencies, gut problems, blood clots, and stroke. It can also put us in estrogen dominance which can lead to estrogenic cancers. Young women need to be told this when they are handed the prescription because the choices we make when we are young WILL affect our fertility and health in the future. I want to have a house full of babies and dogs so this was a huge concern for me🤰🐶 __________

Fast forward to now... I have been off of the pill for 2 years and use @naturalcycles (fertility awareness method/checking cervical fluids) and condoms as my contraception! I have never been happier and felt more like myself after changing my diet and lifestyle to support my hormones. I still get the odd judgement for not being on hormonal contraception like everyone else, but this is what makes ME feel happy and healthy. We should all be empowering other women for making the best choice for themselves - whether that be synthetic hormones or none at all. After going through all of those hormonal issues it inspired me to dive deeper into my studies and help women understand their hormones and cycles! These dehydrated bone broth products by @nutraorganics make getting a regular dose of bone broth much easier (and more affordable) than other fresh bone broths on the market. I use this as an alternative to stock so as the base for soups/stews or risotto. Bone broth is famed for its mineral and amino acid content, bones contain more minerals than any other body tissue per ounce. Bone broths when prepared traditionally will provide amino acids; Gelatin, collagen and glycine. These nutrients in the form of a bone broth are easily absorbed even if digestion is weak for example when suffering from illness, postpartum, under stress or in the elderly.

Kicking it back old school with some Asian flavors. One of my favourite dishes is green thai curry with tofu a la @bradlabo. I subbed out the rice and used soba noodles instead 🍜
I sprinkled it with black sesame seeds (I consider it the Asian hemp seed). As much as I love visiting the land of gluttony I feel the most at home with fresh whole foods. They are just as delicious and satisfying 😃

The potential benefits of #intermittentfasting

Since the body is unable to get its energy from food during fasting, it dips into glucose that is stored in the liver and muscles. This begins around 8 hours after the last meal is consumed.

When the stored glucose has been used up, the body then begins to burn fat as a source of energy, which can result in weight loss. The use of fat for energy can help preserve muscle and reduce cholesterol levels.
One of the most well-known intermittent fasting diets is the 5:2 Fast Diet - a plan that involves eating the recommended calorie intake for 5 days a week but reducing calorie intake to 25% for the remaining 2 days - to 500 calories a day for women and 600 a day for men.

I personally love doing the 14hr fast which I stop eating at 7PM and break my fast at 10AM the next morning. I normally do the intermittent fasting when I need it or need help aiding as a #detox because while in the detoxification process occurs as any toxins stored in the body's fat are dissolved and removed from the body. There's noting that after a few days of fasting, higher levels of endorphins - "feel-good" hormones - are produced in the blood, which can have a positive impact on mental well-being.

Welp school begins again tomorrow, so here comes the grind 😜 Two more semesters until I can claim that Master's degree 🎓 I made a few fridge snacks I can grab on the go because I often get so busy I forget to eat until I'm hangry, which is no bueno. P can vouch. Protein cake batter bars using @nikkiscoconutbutter & @vitalproteins a la @empoweredsustenance recipe + chai & coconut cream gummies using @greatlakesgelatin (wish these were dirty chai gummies but we cut out coffee until August). The regular recipe from @enlightenedfoodie calls for strong coffee & I can't wait to re-make next month with the real deal from Caffe Ibis ☕️ Recipes such as these I can prep on a weekend make life a tad easier when things get crazy👏🏼

Então se muitos sabem porque não colocam em prática? Porque não sabem priorizar, falta organização, falta vontade de começar!!! Já perceberam que muitas pessoas buscam ajuda somente quando adoecem? Certamente na doença a saúde se torna prioridade, pois quando a tinha não foi dado o devido valor. Conhecer a máquina que temos, as particularidades dela, como a mesma funciona e quais os combustíveis mais adequados só pode ter um resultado: saúde! Como saber se isso é para mim? Vc sabe! Se vc toma vinho e minutos após vem um sono incontrolável e leve dor de cabeça, certamente não é o melhor para vc; se vc toma chá verde e tem tontura, náuseas, enjoos, esse chá não é pra vc; se vc tem muitos gases quando come brócolis, vc deveria melhorar sua microbiota, as formas e fontes de fibras de sua alimentação; se seu sono não é dos melhores busque estratégias para melhorar, isso é essencial, já coloquei tanta coisa sobre isso aqui; se vc tem vontade deixar de comer fontes animais pq não deixa de vez?; se fazer atividade física realmente está dentre suas prioridades pq não começa logo?; se seu companheiro/companheira/família não quer mudar o estilo de vida, seja vc a mudança, não espere que o outro tenha a mesma prioridade que vc. O ser humano tem por natureza imitar os que obtém êxito; se envolva mais na seleção e preparo do que vc come, do que usa como combustível para sua máquina. Não espere a doença bater à porta, comece já! Se já existe alguma doença mostre a ela quem manda e assuma o controle de sua saúde! Aqui vos escreve não só um profissional, mas um ser humano que priorizou, mudou e conseguiu benefícios inimagináveis, ou melhor, benefícios totalmente possíveis! #durmacomessa
