Proud of myself for holding it together - this lump in my throat is hard to swallow but seeing him so excited to go to school made this huge transition as easy as it could be.

🔜 class assignment they needed to color a school bus; he told me everyone colored a yellow and black school bus but he wanted a 🌈 rainbow one and he added his friends into the windows; he also had to draw himself playing on the play ground (again added more friends)

Day 2 was much better for me and BONUS Elliot earned points in class ✏️📚 you earn these by doing good, listening well etc and he earn the play dough badge (apparently this is a big deal) he’s excited and I am so excited for him!!!

Second time making hashbrown egg casserole!!🙌🙌 I made this for the kids, pete and my lunch' tommorow!! And it smells sooo damn good i cant wait to try it! Maybe a bit for breakfast?😋 I run a home daycare where I provide care for up to 4 children plus my own toddler monday-friday 7-5. I absolutely love what i do and always try to do my best to make the healthiest choices when it comes to the kids meals too! Sure Somedays they get chicken strips and cookies. But veggies are always somewhere on the menu!! 💕

After all the children our future, as corney as it is its true!! Why not make the best decisions we can for them and lead by strong examples?? They get their behaviours from us!! Yes they are just kids and can totally have bear paws, nutrigrain bars, golfish, granola bars and junk... All day long if i let them lol... But by balancing the days nutritional intake, always offering veggies and fruit, whole grains, lean meats as often as i can with the exception to hotdogs and chicken strips lol , they are learning healthy habits and getting better nourishment for their little growing bodies!! Plus they always eat it and tell me it tastes good so i guess it cant be that bad? 😜

I didn't think anything of this picture when I first flipped through his nature photo shoot sessions.
Now that I am sitting here editing some pictures, I saw it again and it hit me deeper. This is how my son sees me! -
I don't eat healthy to be skinny or to live forever. I don't workout to have abs. I workout and eat right so that I can climb a tree and teach my kids how to balance. I workout and eat right so that I don't lose my breath walking around the woods with them. I eat right and workout so that my son and daughter can see their momma playing with them.

Today a friend told me she got her life back because she changed her eating and started working out. She told me she not only sees her oldest eating better, but that she is playing with her kids more than ever.
We don't do this to live forever, we do this to live and feel alive right now!

If you want your kids to make the right choices, we've got to teach them and show them how. So proud of all my warriors out there who are putting in the work every day so that they can play hard with their little ones. Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)... EFAs are healthy fats that humans cannot synthesise within the body, and therefore have to obtain through diet. They are needed to maintain the health of cells, especially neurons (brain and nerve cells), and have also been shown to reduce inflammation, improve mood and protect against heart disease. During pregnancy our need for omega 3 EFAs increases substantially. This is because in the second half of gestation foetal brain growth accelerates significantly and omega 3 EFAs are needed to create these new brain cells. Animal studies have shown that insufficient levels of maternal omega 3 EFAs is associated with visual, behavioural and developmental deficits that cannot be reversed with post natal supplementation. Adequate levels of EFAs during pregnancy have been shown to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes in the child such as visual recognition, memory, verbal intelligence, fine motor skills, social skills and communication skills. Children whose mothers had a high intake of oily fish or were supplemented with omega 3, also had a decreased risk of developing mood disorders, as well as food allergies and eczema. High intake of omega 3 has also been shown to reduce the risk of postpartum depression in mothers. Omega 3 EFAs are high in oily fish, though in pregnancy it is best to avoid eating bigger fish as they are higher in mercury (toxic to the brain) and instead, stick to smaller fish such as whiting, sardines and anchovies. Other sources of omega 3 EFAs include wild salmon roe, free range grass fed meats, walnuts, chia, flax and hemp seeds, as well as egg yolk. 3-4 serves of these foods each week should be enough, though I would advise supplementing with a high quality fish oil such as Green Pastures Fermented Cod Liver oil throughout the second half of pregnancy and while breastfeeding. With cod liver oil, you will also get naturally occurring vitamins A and D, which are great for immune health. Haven’t done one of these in a while...just an example of what the usual school/kindy lunchboxes look like for my older boys. Sorry for the ave pictures 😂
The kindy and school encourage zero waste lunchboxes which is great.
First one has a tahini and jam sandwich (gf) because there’s no nut rules in place, capsicum, cucumber, orange and a smoothie and second one has spelt and sultana scones, cucumber, orange, mandarin, capsicum, dried apricots and leftover roast mix of pumpkin, cauli & chickpeas which he loved at dinner last night.
Pretty quick to chuck together in our fave @bentoninja.co.nz lunchboxes.

What they don’t eat at school or kindy they eat at home before afternoon tea as an unwavering rule.

It’s hard for kids to understand how many many kids even within NZ go without so i feel it’s important to talk to them about it - doing the ration challenge was great for that too!
Of course they complain sometimes that they’re not getting things in there that they might see others having (lcm bars, le snaks, chippies etc) no surprises there. What’s cool though is some of the food in their lunchbox they’ve helped pick at the markets. Healthy habits start at home.

Coconut Banana Flax & Chocolate Chip Macaroon Cookies made in a flash! Preheat Oven to 350 degrees. Toast 3 cups of shredded coconut on parchment paper in oven for approx 5 min Then Mix in a bowl: 2 mashed bananas 1 tbsp vanilla 1 tbsp maple syrup 3 cups toasted shredded coconut 2 tbsp ground flax seeds 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips With a measuring tbsp scoop out cookies and place on a sheet of parchment paper. Clean up infestation:
↠Shampoo & rinse with 10-20 drops.

As a mom, I’ve found that the health of my family is just as important as individual health. Although I try to feed my kids good food and avoid the junk, that’s easier said than done. We do family dinners every night, but I never really thought to post what Maisie's dinner plate looks like compared to ours. She always gets the same thing we are eating, just in smaller portions 😝. Some days she eats everything and some days she eats nothing, but we never offer to make her a different meal. If she's hungry she will eat 😉.

Picky eaters develop when we begin to take the easier less stressful road and just throw some dino nuggets in the oven, or a box of mac n' cheese on the stove. I get it is not ideal to prepare and eat dinner early enough so that the little ones can join you at the table, but it is SO important for them and YOU! Not only does it teach them to become more adventurous with food, but it gets you eating healthier as well! Not to mention the benefits of family bonding and communication that we have lost over the years as busy schedules and technology have taken over... It's certainly not a new concept, but it's definitely one that needs to be re-instilled into our family values. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Exams week for me means less time cooking. But feeling super organised with food as I preplanned my cooking for the week and did a big shop at the Bondi markets and baked a batch of cauliflower muffins from @wholesome_child which my kids love. Me traje el otro día de la huerta unas espinacas y unas zanahorias, me fui full inspiración y salió este rico puré ❤️ es un tipo de “estofado”, pero en vez de papa use pasta y está hecho con cebolla morada 😍 que le da un toque súper especial. La Magia está en cerrar la tapa de la olla y dejarlo ahí, que no escape el vapor y se cocine todo junto, eso hace que se potencien los sabores 🍃

[+ 9 meses 👶🏾]
Zanahorias / pasta / cebolla morada / solomillo de cerdo / aceite de oliva extra virgen / espinacas
1️⃣ En una sartén poner un chorrito de aceite de oliva y dorar la cebolla cortada en pluma por 5 min, agregar el somillo cortado y dorar por 7 min; yo use mi olla de fierro esmaltada de @lacreole.cl y abajo en la base se hace una costra dorada que luego al añadir el agua se hace un caldito ❣️ soñado!!!!!!!! 🍽️
2️⃣ Pasar a una olla y cubrir de agua hirviendo, incorporar zanahoria cortada y pasta; dejar por 15 min.
3️⃣ Al último agregar la espinaca sin tallo y dejar por 5 min.
4️⃣ Pasar todo a la licuadora 🌪️🌪️🌪️ walaaa!!!!! 🍽️🙌🏻🍵👶🏾 listo para disfrutar!!!! •

You know those favorite #lunchbox tips I like to share with you guys like pack the night before, keep essentials stocked for quickly pulling together, etc.? Yeah, those weren’t really being used this morning! But that’s life! *

Thankfully, I was able to gather some leftover popcorn chicken (thanks Mom for sharing these yesterday!), a few decent looking carrots that weren’t totally gross in the bottom of the bag, a @babybelus cheese, some peach slices (that required peeling to look acceptable) and pistachios. *

The lunchbox came back from school with a few popcorn chicken, a carrot and half of the cheese still in it. Not too bad!! What are you packing for lunch these days? Need some ideas? I love spending time in nature and find hiking in mountains to be my best 'gym' time. I love the feeling of breathing hard to see the amazing view from up top, and the beauty of God's world... in which we were designed to thrive! There are so many lessons I learn in nature. I love showing them that freedom comes from strength, independence, and self-reliance, and that is what makes us feel strong. Quinoa with vegetables

➰ ½ cup of quinoa (or rice)
➰ 1 cup and ½ of water (or homemade chicken or beef broth WITHOUT 🚫 salt)
➰ ½ tsp turmeric ➰ 1 celery stick
➰ 2 cloves of garlic
➰ ½ pepper (any color)
➰ 1 grated carrot
➰ broccoli
➰ ½ zucchini
➰ cilantro or parsley to taste
➰ 1 tsb of coconut, avocado or olive oil

Soak quinoa for 8 hours. Then throw away that water, and wash quinoa very well.

Chop vegetables in squares of approximately ¼”.

Place the quinoa, water/broth, turmeric, and chopped vegetables in a pot. As soon as it boils, lower to a low heat, cover, and let the waterbroth absorb (approximately 20 minutes)

Beginners: I do not recommend mixing food at the beginning since it is good for the baby to know the flavor and texture of each food separately. I would say we can make this type of mixtures from 8 months. What to do before? Place the quinoa beside the broccoli, pepper, etc.

Many moms ask if they can use spices (pepper, turmeric, ginger, coriander, cumin, bay leaf, etc.) to spice up meals. Basically, yes. There is no problem. The only thing is that we also want babies to know the flavors before spicing. It is also recommended that you increase the amount little by little. It is the first time that I add turmeric in my daughter's food, so I only put ½ tsp. I can give more later.

Another adventurous eaters dinner in the books. A spirited group of 6,7 and 8 yr olds made their own rice bowls (a mix of white rice and cauliflower rice) with a variety of toppings. This one has honey garlic shrimp, kale chips, corn on the cob, avocado, roasted parmesan cauliflower, black beans and mango. For dessert they had chocolate covered almond butter rice crispy balls.

Eat the #rainbow! This is my weekly veggie share from my #CSA. This is the first season I’ve done it, and I am loving it! I always have fresh, organic, local produce and I love being able to support a local farm. I’m currently doing a half share and it’s been perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 toddlers.
