The human body is made mostly of water yet most individuals rarely drink enough on a daily basis. Water is critical for health and being sufficiently hydrated is important for a lot of chemical reactions to occur properly that construct, power, and control our muscles, hearts, bodies, and brains which can only happen in a water solvent. When you ask people how much water they are drinking per day the answer is usually 1-2 cups and they wonder why they are always dehydrated. Dehydration can have a lot of negative side effects that may make you feel dizzy, fatigued and can even affect your mood and concentration.
Staying hydrated is not complicated. It does not require much effort, you just have to be mindful of how much water you are drinking per day. In order to gauge if you are well hydrated you:
- Have light or clear urine color - Urination is in high volumes
This is the best way to gauge if you're getting enough water. If the urine is dark yellow and/or you are not urinating enough you might need to increase your fluid intake and drink some more water! Don't just drink 8 glasses of water in the morning and think that it will keep you hydrated throughout the day. Drink often and make sure you don't let hours pass by before you have fluids.

How to build a H O M E G Y M
When I say home gym, I don’t mean you need a spare room or an entire garage to kit out with expensive exercise equipment, it’s about how you can start building up a collection of equipment that you can use for effective, progressive workouts.

My first piece of kit to recommend would be a TRX/suspension trainer. You can work your whole body on these and start out using them as a beginner who is new to exercise to establish good form with various leg exercises and then ramp up the technical difficulty of exercises to bust out more advanced workout. This piece of kit can work your whole body, legs, back, core and arms. You can also use it inside and out and you need very little space to use it and store it.

I would also get a few resistance bands for isolation glute exercises and these are super cheap.

Then month on month I would look at spending what you would have on a gym membership on another kettlebell or dumbbell or pull up bar.
As you progress your fitness and strength you can buy heavier weights every few months to keep pushing your progress forwards.

You don’t need a lot of space. I have a small ish area of garden and I live in a flat. I have done many a home workout indoors in our lounge, but mostly you’ll find me in my back yard throwing some weights around or hanging off the tree on the TRX.

Doing workouts at home also removes travel time to and from the gym and the set up time for any of my workouts is at the most 5 minutes.

So if you are a busy, working mum and you are struggling to find time to get to the gym to exercise, building up a collection of equipment as you progress your fitness could be the way to go 👍

You all know (well, most of you know) how much I love quadrupeds 😜🙋‍♀️

Such a great core exercise, especially for postpartum recovery, those who have issues with back pain, and/or just a weak core in general.
.

The more I train with different types of people, especially postpartum women, the more I realize MOST people do not understand how to use their deep abdominals.
.
.

First pic (top) and first pic (bottom) ... these are the most common ways I see quadrupeds done. Reaching the arm and leg HIGH, no core engagement, and stress on the lower back.

.

Second pic (top) - this is not a bad looking quadruped but you can see the deep abdominals are clearly not working at all.
.
.

Second pic (bottom) - deep abdominals are working well. Core is working as a whole and it's a much more INTENTIONAL movement which will get you much better results ;)
.
. ➡️Focus on your deep abdominals (I like using the cue - belly button in and zipper up toward the sternum).
.
. ➡️Focus on reaching LONG with the arm and leg rather than HIGH. .

Mit etwas verzug heute wieder einen Trainingsabend geschaft. Lief gut bis meine Tochter lieber auf Papa Raumklettern wollte als hampelmanner und situps zu machen 😂. Aber wir lieben doch die Herausforderung. Zum Glück hat sie mich die burpees und die lunges alleine machen lassen das wäre sonst , Vor allem bei den burpees kompliziert geworden. Aber beide hatten ihren Spaß!

There are some people who choose to workout for hours because it's as much a social thing as it is a physical thing. Great. There are some who treat the gym like an all-you-can-eat restaurant. Get in, go hard & fast and go home. Great. The gym should be whatever you need it to be, with whatever time you can consistently make available and with the goal still being about getting results.

Today was not about a long, hard session... Today was about moving my muscles, forcing my heart to pump some serious blood and for my lungs to get involved quickly. 30mins in total, intensity cranked right up and conscience feeling good as I strutted back to the changing room. I didn't think I HAD the time and so I basically MADE the time. Here's a superset of my upper body push/pull combo - keeping tempo up made for more of a cardiovascular effect throughout.

Fitness is whatever you need it to be. Today, for me, was all about burning off some unnecessary nervous energy after some amazing meetings/conversations about the future, getting the little one and coming home to chill.
