Have you ever eaten maple leaves before? And I mean like a real leaf and not the sweet syrup that you put on pancakes!! Here it is and it is called MOMIJI!!
I read about eating maple leaves before going to Japan. I imagined it to be a sweet, syrupy, delicate pastry with maple leaves sprinkles or something like that. Hence my surprise when I first bit into my momiji. It was savory and salty like a fish cake shaped into a disc with a pretty maple leaf on top as garnish. 😁
Curious Fact: Locals call maple leaves momiji, therefore there are several momiji food items aside from the one we tried. Momiji literally translates to "baby's hands" and is most famous during autumn, but can be purchased all - year round 🙌
