Most mornings while doing my chores around the house I listen to a podcast.
Today it was on Oprah Super Soul Sunday. Oprah and New York Times best-selling author, public speaker and writing teacher Anne Lamott discuss what she says are the three types of prayers that can help anyone through challenging times.
At one point during the conversation, Oprah brings up a great point. She points out that in the times we live in with devastating natural disasters and mass shootings, some people ask, “where is God?”
Anne responds with, “God, is in the workers, the helpers.”
That stopped me and I thought wow, she’s right.
About an hour later as I’m checking my email, I get an update on a Go Fund Me account of a dear dear college friend. You see her family recently lost their homes in the Camp Fire in Paradise California. I open the email and the first name I see as a recent donor is someone in my circle (who I’m not gonna lie is not my favorite person) *note* writing that now feels crumby and not true, after what I’m about to tell you. Anyhow, she doesn’t know my friends personally, but she donated because I shared the link on Facebook.
The best news yet, The Go Fund Me page, raised enough money for a trailer for the family.
I literally started crying and actually still am, on and off. Circling back to the podcast, “God is in the workers, the helpers.”
I got a message today, loud and clear! I see this person in a whole new light. It feels so much better to see them this way. Why, for so long, was I choosing to see the darkness of this person instead of the light.
I had to share this story. Happy Thursday!
All is well, God is with us 🙏
