Of all the parts of the nativity, the most important is the babe that was born in Bethlehem. The Christ child that was born in order to save us all.
For centuries, the birth of our beloved Savior was prophesied. Prophets of old, generations of people, prepared for His sacred birth. The reason His birth was so anticipate is because of all our Savior would do for us. He would choose to come down as a mortal and bear the infirmities, challenges, trials and joys of this world, in order to save us from sin and death. He conquered the grave for each of us.
So tender was His priceless offering that all the heavens rejoiced at His coming. Angels sang to announce His birth. I always wondered where I was on that sacred day. I know I longed for His coming and His deliverance. I know my heart and whether or not my presence was amongst the angels, was quietly watching, and I know my heart must have been rejoicing in the birth of our Savior. Knowing, because of Him, our Father in Heaven’s plan would be fulfilled.
I wonder what I felt in those moments, and if my feelings were similar to what I feel now, when I place baby Jesus in His place, with His mother, Mary, in the nativity.
My heart rejoices when I see this little babe lying in a manger. Because I know that little babe grew up and became my Savior. The one who bore my sins, infirmities, injustices and heartaches. The one who has comforted me throughout my life. And the One who is always there for me, encouraging me and supporting me. The One who is my friend, comforter and my source of everlasting peace.
The Christ child is the reason for it all. Because of Him, I don’t just have peace on Christmas Day but throughout the year. I’ll be blessed to live with Him again, because He chose to be born, live and die for me. There truly is no greater gift.
