I’m the worst at photos, but update on the babies, and it’s a lot. 😬 The babies are now 20 days old. They eat and drink on their own. Play fight. All that goods.
Well a couple days ago we noticed Athena (mama) had a swollen nipple and was abnormal. Come to find out it’s mastitis, and it’s an infection. We noticed that Athena was literally getting hurt everytime her babies tried to nurse and it wasn’t a pretty sight —- or sound.
Well, last night as we were sitting around watching the babies I noticed Athena was hissing at one of her pups, scent marking (running around the cage rubbing against it) and attacking her little one. :( We then decided it was best to take measures into our own hands and separate the babies from mama, had we not she would’ve injured them badly or may as well kill them. (They are too old to be killed) They’re now in their own separate cage and what-not and we’ve consulted with other breeders and were told since they are eating solids and drinking water they’ll make it just fine. (The earliest to wean is 21 days.) Since separating from mom, they’re so much more active, they run on the wheel, climb the cage, play with each other, and have a blast. I truly think we made a good decision. As for Athena, she seems like she’s getting some peace as well. Alls well that ends well. 🥰
