Happy Sunday ‘gram fam! It’s me, popping by in my overalls to encourage you today.
Last night I was on a mentoring Skype call with an incredible photographer making a pivot into the boudoir scene. Like most creatives that I mentor, she had some fears that she shared with me. ‘What will my clients think if I do this?’ ‘What will other people think if I offer this?’
I waved my hands around and said, “whoa, hold up! What other people think about you is none of your business!” Let those words settle somewhere between your bones and your soul—hold onto them as truth today.
For so much of my life, I lived my life for someone else. Every decision I made, every opportunity I did or didn’t take—was to make someone else happy. Today I want you to ask yourself—‘Who do I want to answer to?’ Put your blinders on, sister! Your successes & your losses? Don’t worry about how ‘other people’ interpret those—those are YOURS.
A large part of your success will lie with how far away you stay from other people’s opinions. Are YOU proud of the work you do? Do YOU believe that your work can change the lives of others? If the answer is yes, it’s time to passionately push that work out into the world, without fear of how somebody will interpret it. Show up BIG, be who you are, do the work you are called to do. The rest? That’s someone else’s problem, and it’s not yours to carry.
Hold YOUR opinion of you in the highest regard—I’m tellin’ you, once you make the decision to answer ONLY to yourself, you will no longer live in the prison of what other people think.
