"The beginning" (Born in January 2019)
Oil on canvas, 89x116cm / 35x45,6"
Party of my series "Strangers". Each one of these paintings have a peculiar story that defines it. Here's her story: //"Shoot. Where am I? What was I doing? Oh, right, nothing special. I was just going home. This is the route I take everyday... How could I forget? Silly me" - That was the first memory she forever lost.// I don't want to explain every single painting because it's not about the story itself, but about what you see in it. I first paint and then I write. That's how I made all these paintings up until now. I'm just an artist who likes to create stories.
In this particular case I'm taking about Alzheimer. After I painted it I noticed how absent minded she was. What was she looking at? She seemed kinda lost. That's when I asked myself "when is the first time Alzheimer takes form in a person?" I just wanted to recreate that first moment the illness begins to grow without us noticing. It might sound a bit dark, but it truly is just out of curiosity.
Also, I really loved making this big painting. It's one of the biggest in capable of doing... Because of space. My studio is just a room in my house and there is a limit at how big the canvases can be.
But back to the painting, I really enjoyed working in that scale. The woman wearing the light grey coat was my favorite character to paint, as well as the man passing by behind the protagonist. My eyes follow them both rather than the main character, but that's just because of the fun I had painting them.
