On this earth day, there is a lot of attention on big and beautiful species around the world. But the wildlife in our own backyards need the same care and concern and it is often largely overlooked. Every species in San Diego plays an important role in balancing our ecosystem, yet many are considered a nuisance, a threat, or aren't considered at all. Our wildlife faces the daily challenge of loss of habitat, dog and cat attacks, window strikes, cars, ingestion of plastics, pesticides, rodenticides, drought, fires, and more. So today, let's celebrate our native wildlife and work to find ways to co-exist. To learn about how to handle a wildlife situation or to donate towards the care of our patients, go to www.sdwildlife.org. Happy Earth Day!
Every small step we take can make a difference to protect our planet and all species.
Over here we are trying to make earth day every day with our upcoming ECOLOGIES collections. Today is also the start of #FashionRevolution week, and so we thought we'd share some of our tenets:

We are committed to sustainability and to using ethical sources for our materials to protect our planet. Our new mission is to celebrate nature and wildlife through our designs while supporting conservation efforts.
We believe in slow fashion. Our entire supply chain is ethical, eco-friendly, and largely made by hand. We are working with handloom weavers, block-printers, hand-embroiderers, and Craftmark certified enterprises and factories. Our partners ethically employ and support artisans in India, while keeping the exquisite handloom weaving artistry and traditions alive. We'll be introducing them to you soon!
We are using only 100% Certified Organic Cotton and Responsibly Sourced Wool and Cashmere, and we are continually exploring other sustainable material options.
We use only low impact, fiber reactive, and azo free dyes. And are currently exploring natural dyes as well.

We are very close to launching our first ECOLOGIES collection of accessories and home products, and will be sharing more about all of the above soon!
And PS - this image shows a sneak peek of the location our upcoming ECOLOGIES collection is inspired by....any guesses?

Earth Day 2019 🐘 Protect Our Species 🦏 slow down, stop 🚫, the extinction of species around the world 🗺️ caused by human activity (land & ocean) leading to climate change, deforestation, habitat degradation, pollution... We've entered an era where animal extinction is rapidly increasing & the 6th mass extinction in earth's history is underway. We threaten our own survival. #protectbiodiversity #protectecosystems #protectwildlife #maintainaliveableclimate "Human-influenced extinctions began when modern humans moved out of Africa. Successive waves of extinctions in Australia (50,000 years (50 kyr) ago), North America and South America (10–11 kyr ago) and Europe (3–12 kyr ago) were driven largely by a combination of hunting by humans and natural climate change. By 3 kyr ago, Earth had lost half of all terrestrial mammalian mega-fauna species (with a mass of more than 44 kg) and 15% of all bird species. Extinction rates for birds, mammals and amphibians are similar at present to those of the five global mass-extinction events of the past 500 million years (500 Myr) that probably resulted from meteorite impacts, massive volcanism and other cataclysmic forces." (p73 from Tilman, David & Clark, Michael & R. Williams, David & Kimmel, Kaitlin & Polasky, Stephen & Packer, Craig. (2017). "Future threats to biodiversity and pathways to their prevention". Nature. 546. 73-81). We can all play our part... Plant trees, 🌱 reduce plastic waste, 🗑️ reduce, reuse, recycle ♻️ encourage bees in your garden, 🐝 look for energy efficient, ⚡take public transport, 🚉 help clean up & protect reserves, parks, beaches, rivers & restore habitat, 🏖️ go vegan, 😉 reduce consumption ⚖️, avoid pesticides, ☢️ buy local & organic & / or grow your own! 🍅

Happy Earth Day 2019 🎉 first occurring in 1970 as a protest against the negative effects of industrial development, it has grown in to a global movement celebrating environmental action and participation. This year the theme is 'Protect our Species' in response to the wave of extinctions due to human activity we are currently experiencing.
Celebrating the sheer diversity and beauty of bark just between Eucalypt species 💚
Taken in Qld, NSW and ACT.

This is part of my dad s garden... The most beautiful cherry tree was planted as a gift to me and my sister when we were kids. We have watch this tree every year , every season, waitng to see its flower appeared, sign of the the spring. Sign we would soon be bringing buckets full of cherry picked up by our hands and knowing we probably had as much on our stomach.
When the spring comes, my family send me pics and update on my tree letting me know i ll be soon missing on the feast...
As kids, every spring we would see dozens of butterflies , bees, caterpillar and every type of insects. In the night we would seat on our windows to observe the thousands stars watching us, hoping we could soon make a wish. We would observe life growing in front of our eyes. Now im happy when i can show my daughter one butterfly in the garden. Now im happy when i can spot one star in the sky... This is why Earth Day is important. This is why we need to do better. Starting with me... So our future generation have something to watch...

Are we ready for a future without food? ⁣

Protect Our Species - a powerful theme for Earth Day 2019!⁣

If you have watched @bbc's Climate Change : The Facts or watched @gretathunberg's emotional speech to EU leaders, you will know that we are witnessing species extinction at an alarming rate. ⁣

Scientists attribute this to a loss of habitat, exploitation and climate change. All man-made!⁣

We were at the @extinctionrebellion demonstration at Oxford Circus where powerful messages adorned pavements, banners, placards and posters.⁣

The one that summed up the climate crisis and also scared us the most was this - NO FOOD NO FUTURE.⁣

Nature provides innumerable ecosystem services and one such taken-for-granted service is that of pollination. ⁣

Over 87% of flowering plant species are pollinated by animals. The production of 70% of the 124 main crops consumed by us humans depend on insect pollinators.⁣

A recent study found that insect populations have declined by more than 75% in just 27 years.⁣

40% of the world’s bird species are in decline, and 1 in 8 is threatened with global extinction.⁣

Loss of these vital pollination services will adversely affect global food security. ⁣

The future of food is at stake. Unless, we act NOW.⁣

#Repost @mattiasklumofficial Natural ice sculpture on the shore of Lago Grey in Torres del Paine, Chile .
The coloring of the ice in the background is due to the ice’s absorption of red wavelengths of light and scattering of blue wavelengths of light as it is transmitted through the ice.
The Southern Patagonian Icefield of Chile and Argentina hosts several spectacular glaciers—including this one! The Grey glacier, which in 1996 had a measured total area of 270 square kilometers and a length of 28 kilometers (104 square miles in area, 17 miles long), begins in the Patagonian Andes Mountains to the west and terminates in three distinct lobes into the beautiful Grey Lake. The observed retreat means that, like in many other locations, ice loss has been greater than ice replenishment. Our world is changing faster than anyone predicted. Already, freshwater supplies are shrinking, agricultural yields are dropping, our forests are burning, and rising oceans are more acidic—all, in part, due to a warming climate. As our natural world changes around us, so does our way of life. We can all make smarter choices for a better world!

NMC released new rules for axing and trimming of Nagpur trees

A SOP ( Standard Operating Procedure) has been recently release by Nagpur Municipal Corporation , wherein trimming of trees will also need permission, accordingly 9 point guidelines have been issued. The rules have been formulated taking in account all the aspects ensuring compensatory plantation don’t remain on paper.
A very positive step by NMC towards protecting the Green cover of Nagpur city.

Proper implementation and execution of new rules can put a stop to rapidly decreasing carbon sinks of Nagpur... #Protectcitygreencover #Nagpur #NagpurMunicipalCorporation #Nagpuriansjoinhands #LoosingGreencover #CombatClimateChange #IncreaseCarbonsink #ProtectBiodiversity #ParisAgreement #Dechockingoftrees #Chockedtrees #Breatherfornagpurtrees

Native Duckweed, #Lemna species. Actually eaten by ducks. Ducks like marshy-pondy-muddy places. If you have a little pond, rainbarrel garden or even a micropond like I do in #California, please use California native water plants, never ever non-natives like so many pond and water garden & pet stores sell.
