Arsenal’s post Wenger era was met with trepidation at the beginning of the season, and why wouldn’t it? For a lot of Arsenal fans, this was the first time someone other than Uncle Arsene would grace the touchline at the Emirates. So far, the choice to bring in Emery has been justified.
The change in Arsenal is evident for all to see. I wouldn’t say they play the most attractive brand of football, but are definitely capable of scoring great team goals (Leicester And Fulham). The biggest and perhaps most significant change Emery has brought is the tireless pressing. It takes a lot of fitness, great coaching and coordination to press as well as they do, especially after such a short period of time. 21 games unbeaten - last defeat vs Chelsea in August. Incredible.
The best thing about this season, from a fans perspective is the improvement in certain players both technically and tactically. Bellerin, Kolasinac And Iwobi have shown the greatest individual improvements, but players like Lacazette, Aubameyang are looking like new signings just from being used correctly. The arrival of Torreira has arguably been signing of the season as well. Doing his defensive duties well and chipping in with vital goals as well.
Emery has exceeded everyone’s expectations this season. Arsenal have a genuine shot at top 3 and won’t fear anyone. December will give us a real feel of how good they are, but so far so good. •
How would you rate our season out of 10 so far? Good parts? Bad parts?
