As a therapist, I work with people with different life experiences, backgrounds, upbringings, and perspectives.
However, because we are all human beings who are wired for connection, there are some experiences that are universal: falling in love, managing difficult relationship dynamics, navigating the transition to parenthood (as individuals and in a partnership), developing healthy relationships outside of romantic relationships, parenting children and supporting them in growing into confident people, separations and break-ups, re-learning ourselves, setting boundaries that feel safe and healthy…the list goes on.
As a result, there are some phrases I find myself using consistently with my clients. This is not only a reflection of my personal style but also the fact that we are in this together. Many of us are working toward the common goal of having healthier, more satisfying relationships as well as learning to fully embrace who we are.
