When it comes to developing a client’s logo, there’s a method to the madness. We asked our Art Director, @NateHinners, to walk us through the process from sketches to the final mark. He explains in four easy steps:
We start by meeting with the client to discuss their brand and discover what's unique about them. With that information in hand, our designers begin sketching logo ideas on paper to generate a range of ideas that communicate the essence of the brand.
Once we have a range of sketches that communicate what we need them to in an interesting way, we use a computer to vectorize the best ones, keeping them in black and white because it helps focus our clients' feedback by having them pay specific attention to the form and shape of a logo before moving on to color.
Once the logo form is finalized, we then explore a range of color palette options. Sometimes clients will have something very specific in mind — "We want to see blue and green!" — and sometimes they leave it up to us to make recommendations. This round of the design process leans heavily into our experience with color theory as well as our knowledge of color psychology.
This is the final step! Once we finalize a color palette, then we package up our logo in various file formats that the client may need and hand them off. It's always exciting to see the logo creation process come to an end, as we get to see our work in the real world, when we're finished!
