Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides)
I decided to highlight Vetiver today because, well, its my all time favorite oil and I wanted to share!! What is it??? Vetiver essential oil is steam distilled from the roots of the grassy vetiver plant growing wild in the rain forests of Indonesia. It is definitely an earthy, deep, woodsy, slightly sweet essential oil, which i absolutely love (I'll even dab a little behind my ears with Ylang Ylang as a perfume). As my oils of the week continue you'll start to see a trend when it comes to oils. There are SO many options and alternatives for one ailment, if you don't like the smell of one oil there is always another to take its place! There's no absolute here.
That being said, in addition to being a beautiful, balancing support, vetiver essential oil is also helpful in reducing inflammation and unwanted fungal activity. Vetiver essential oil is often used as a base note in perfume blends as it provides depth and balance to the overall aromatic profile. I use it in my sleep roller, available tomorrow on etsy.com/shop/REssentialsShop, not only for its sedative effects but also to overpower the smell of the German Chamomile.
Vetiver is pretty prevelant in my home. Vetiver essential oil offers gentle sedation and is restorative when one is needing a little additional sleep support. My husband will use my sleep roller by rolling it on the bottom of his feet before bed, and of course the girls love it at night because it smells good. Vetiver has definitely become part of our night time family routine!
