Let’s talk for a minute about why marketing matters.
No, it’s not to sell a product or service.
We have to flip that paradigm.
Sales come last.
Let’s start at the top.
Why do we exist?
I have a faith-based perspective that leads me to live a life of greater meaning and purpose.
That greater meaning and purpose finds fulfillment in loving others and serving them.
I strive to do this with everything I have.
Even, if we don’t share the exact same belief system, I find that this mission resonates with people – my tribe if you will.
I aspire to a life well lived as a force for good in a world that needs it.
This is depth of conviction and passion for the end goal is what we need to build a brand or business. Otherwise, the first obstacle that comes will derail us from the grand purpose.
That solid and unshakable why will propel us to figure out how.
In my case, how is being a leader, writer, and teacher in the marketing space.
I spend countless hours in deep thought and reflection about how I can best contribute to this industry and profession. Even though I am more an accidental marketer, I am passionate about the field. I am here to serve marketers.
The last step – what – came as I started to connect with people on social media. This is more tactical. I found Twitter chats to be a phenomenal way to create meaningful relationships and an amazing community.
Here’s the crazy part: this is marketing without doing marketing.
I don’t have CTAs.
I don’t have an email list.
I don’t have an e-book.
What I do have:
People who care and are ardent supporters
They share my message with joy. They see this same thing in me. There is alignment.
So, here’s why marketing matters:
It is the culmination of a congruent way of operating. It is the synchronous action of the heart, mind, and body. The marketing acts as a lever to get the stone rolling. More of the right people then hear the message.
This creates momentum for the message.
This results in sales. It might take a while. But the sales will come. Keep the faith.
If the message matters, we persevere.
