Acrylic on canvas - 18" x 24" each
This is another series that hung in the "Collection of Black Artists" show in Chatham, Ontario way back when.
I started out thinking about the different stereotypical jobs people hand out to different races. Focusing on black people, I have found that most people visualize blacks as athletes, entertainers, or blue collar workers. Therefore, I painted African figures with traditional jewellery and symbols that would make them kings or princes in their African tribes, while wearing the uniforms of some of the professions we visualize them in - the athlete, the rapper, the entertainer, the custodian. Hope y'all enjoy!
