ENERGY SYSTEMS By @macrolabnutrition
The body relies on 3 basic energy systems, these are:

ATP-CP (Anaerobic A-Lactic): This system is used during short, intense exercise that require a lare amount of power. This creates a large demand for ATP. Stored CP (creatine phosphate) donates its phosphate group to ADP to produce ATP. This process is anaerobic as no carbs, o2 or fats are used in the process & no lactate is produced. This system is mainly used during short, maximal effort exercises, like sprinting, Olympic weightlifting, etc.

Glycolytic (Anaerobic Lactic): The glycolytic system acts in exercise lasting roughly 30s-2mins and produces ATP through blood glucose and muscle glycogen. The breakdown of glucose to synthesise ATP results in the creation of a substance called 'pyruvate' and hydrogen ions. Pyruvate is then used for fuel, giving off 2 ATP per molecule. This product uses no o2 and can be quite acidic. Pyruvate binds with the H+ ions to form Lactate, which acts as a buffer to help with this.

Aerobic: The aerobic system produces far more ATP than either of the other energy systems but it produces the ATP much more slowly, therefore it cannot fuel intense exercise that demands the fast production of ATP. ATP is produced through glycolysis, krebs cycle and the electron transport chain. Where the anaerobic glycolytic system synthesises only two ATPs from the breakdown of one glucose molecule, the aerobic system can synthesise 38 ATPs from one molecule, albeit very slowly in comparison. Let’s talk about cardio 🚴🏼‍♂️

Is it necessary to lose fat? No, but it can be a useful tool for weight loss. Especially if you are struggling to eat less calories, just do some low intensity cardio to increase your daily calorie consumption. High intensity cardio can be also done, but remember that it leads to more overall fatigue.

Next point, doing cardio while muscle gaining phase. It can be done to improve your endurance and health, but it will increase your daily burned calories, so if you struggle to eat that much, you should maybe do less cardio.

I, for my part don’t do cardio that often as I don’t enjoy it that much. If you want to do it, plan on doing it after your normal workout, to make sure you have enough power for the heavy lifts.

We see a lot of different hierarchies to meet a lot of different needs for a lot of different people. These needs should be met above all else to create meaningful change and value in their life. Pain free and stronger is the end result. The reality is not everyone is an athlete even though we all like to think in that sense. These needs all tie into each other in some way, shape or form. Asses don’t guess...do what’s important first then worry about your own desires last. The end result will be much better.

3. Mobility is your active ROM
4. Strength balance = creating equal parts

Happy #thankfultuesday friends! 🤗 What are you all thankful for today? 👇👇 I am thankful to have my health coming back and am thankful for all of you 💞 7 months ago I had to come home from my Graduate program in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿because of such severe anemia and neutropenia 😢 Little did I know, my whole world was about to flip upside down 👎 I was in and out of the hospital 🏥for 3 months with my lowest Hb count at 5.1. After 2 blood infusions 💉, 4 iron infusions, a bowel obstruction 💩, a broken ankle 😫, 5 ER trips 🚑, no running 🏃‍♀️, having to delay going back to school 📚, spending 2 months getting my mental health back on track at an intensive anxiety and OCD therapy outpatient program 🌟, I am thankful to be standing on my 2 feet today with higher iron levels, a better mental state, and more strength 💪 I had so many goals and plans for 2018 that have had to be put on the back burner 🔥 but that’s okay, because what’s most important in this life is health and happiness and I am working each and every day harder than ever to fully achieve that 💫 my goals and plans can be achieved when the time is right 🌟🌟As a thank you on this Thankful Tuesday, I want to do something for you all.
