The Changing Of The Guard ceremony at Gwanghwamun Gate is the epitome of pomp and colour. It’s the one thing I’d been looking forward to photographing, and when I’d misread the display times, I seriously considered missing my flight to catch it. But luck and logistics prevailed, and the day was perfect.
In ancient times, the royal guards of Joseon Dynasty guarded the Gwanghwamun Gate, the entrance of Gyeongbokgung Palace where the king ruled the country. Since 1469, the ceremony has taken place and old records of the time have been painstakingly studied to create the current day reenactment ceremony.
I think they nailed it, considering it was a 35 deg. celcius scorcher
