Not since "The Emoji Movie" have I been this excited to see how terrible a film really is. I've seen "Truth or Dare" on many worst of the year list, mostly as number one, so I had to see where it would land on mine and the answer is right on top! This movie is a complete abomination to the art of filmmaking! Now there's bad horror films like "Strangers Prey at Night" that can pass as guilty pleasures and there's films that are so over the top that they work as comedy's such as last years "Happy Death Day" and then there's this, a film that has the nerve to really take itself seriously while everything surrounding it is a complete joke. The plot/concept isn't even the problem with this film, with actual effort this could've been somewhat interesting and maybe even have served as a homage to films like Final Destination but instead it's a complete disaster. From the minute "Truth or Dare" began, I immediately hated every single character. Not only were they all incredibly basic and stupid, but the acting did no justice with terrible performances across the board. Lucy Hale is the most bearable of them all but even she can't cover up the acting miscues and somehow the non-actors from "The 15:17 to Paris" seem like Oscar winners. None of the characters give us any reason to care for them therefore the film just drags harder and gets less interesting as each minute passes by. Acting aside, the dialogue was what really did me in with this movie and there's a line about 30 minutes in about Snapchat filters that made me cringe harder then I ever cringed with a film this year. To no surprise, the ending was as stupid as the rest of the film but at that point I was honestly just waiting for the movie to be over. This is not horror, this is a PG-13 cash grabbing, made for teenagers to go see on dates only to make out through the whole thing, embarrassment of a film and everyone on board with his movie should be ashamed of themselves.
