This is me, in my happy place with one of my amazing couples. Perfect warm light, near the end of a love-filled day, tummies full from dinner, a slight buzz from the champagne, excitement for what we're going to capture and an eagerness to start the rest of their life together. You guys, this feeling is almost palpable at times. All these emotions are such a treat to witness and be part of.
I try so very hard to make sure my clients #1, have a wonderful day and then, #2, receive love-filled images that accurately tell their story. It's so much more than just showing up on the wedding day. It's getting to know them way ahead of time. Learning about their life story and what brought them to this point in their lives. Watching and listening to see how they interact and show their love towards each other so that I may capture it authentically. It's sitting down and working on a wedding day timeline to ensure that we capture all the images they're wanting but to also give them plenty of time to enjoy their family, their friends, the ceremony and of course, each other.
Of course, there's a host of other items that have to be fine-tuned and orchestrated but to me, these interactions are what's most important. I hope that each and every one of my couples know how very important they are to me. I remember it all folks, the day, what you wore, the venue and the tears shared at pivotal moments. I go into each day knowing that it won't be like the one before and that's why I still, after 10 years in business, get nervous before each wedding. I still say a little prayer as I drive to the venue and ask God to help me truly connect with the couple and photograph their day as true to their story as possible. I pray they trust me, let down their guard and not worry about showing emotion in front of the lens. I pray that at the end of the day as they drive away exhausted that they smile at each other, completely in sync knowing their day was incredible.
