One of the main reasons why I started to practice yoga is to slowly recover from all my past injuries. Most importantly, I practice to keep my body healthy so that I can stay on the courts for as long as my body will let me.

One of my first part-time jobs in high school was being a basketball instructor for a private company @youngchampions_ca. I taught kids ages 4-9 the basics of basketball and proper shooting techniques. I would definitely bring this fun drill to the table in this day and age😅

One more exam to go. Didn't get the best grades in undergrad and had to work to figure out how I learned best. I did a whole master program just to accomplish that. Now 4 years later and my first semester of Med School is just about over (One more pass fail test on monday) and I am doing better than I have since high school in terms of grades. I am really glad I had that time in my program as well as the last couple years off. It really gave me time to appreciate what would be the opportunity I now have been given.

Also this pup greeted me when o got home from my patient encounter exam earlier this week. @froyothedane .
Thanks to everyone in my family who has ever supported me in this journey!
Especially @theabchick, my parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and even my peers. Medicine truly is a group effort and there have been plenty of tests I wouldn't have gotten through without one person or study partner or another.

The holiday season has arrived. But along with all of the holiday cheer comes the stress of the holidays.

You become hyper focused, overwhelmed, stressed out, tired, irritable, and you sometimes even feel forgotten.

Meal plans (isn’t cousin Cara gluten free?), grocery shopping, picking out outfits to wear to gatherings, presents to buy, the house to decorate, find child care because the kids are out of school but YOU still have to work, and the list goes on and on and on…

I’ve found the best way to combat the stress of the season is to intentionally set aside some time for daily self-care.

That’s right!! You put yourself on the list of to do’s!!

Whenever I’m feeling self-doubt, my yoga practice has a lot of heart opening poses. Body language is a powerful thing. As a yoga teacher, I’ve become more in-tune reading people based on how they carry themselves - you can tell a lot about a person solely based on their posture. Typically, if one lacks confidence or is scared, they will roll their shoulders down, rounding the thoracic spine, protecting the heart. In yoga, you can counteract these emotions with heart opening poses. Emotions are stored in various parts of our body, so by manipulating a specific part, we can also start to manipulate the emotion. When you open your heart, you begin to feel confident, brave, and loving (toward yourself and others). Here are some poses to help you open your heart:

So this isn’t day 4 of #mymindmyyoga because I officially have strep throat 🙄and twists are some of my least favorites to practice (which means I should practice them more) so I don’t have anything to show for today.🙃

So, I’ll do a quick few facts about me 💕 and hopefully catch up on the challenge this weekend and explain why it’s so near and dear to my heart..

So, hi 👋🏾
1. I have a dog named Moose and he is my pride and joy- he’s some sort of pit, lab, bull dog, dalmatian-y mix (we really have no idea what he is 😂🤷🏽‍♀️he’s a rescue from Tijuana)
2. I have my Masters in Education and I teach 7th and 8th grade English. I also work at a school that allows me to teach yoga as an elective to my middle schoolers 💛
3. I received my 200 hr YTT this past summer at @yogasix and have plans to continue growing my practice and accreditation. I highly recommend doing a YTT- it’s seriously life changing, even if you don’t plan to teach! 🧡
4. I live by the ocean, and love it, but I am definitely a mountain girl at heart🌄
5. Over the past few years I’ve gotten more and more acquainted with anxiety- and am learning how to navigate it.
6. I use to be fluent in German... but I’ve definitely downgraded to “proficient” ...
7. I’ve broken both of my wrists- twice, and had a total hip replacement. If anyone is going through surgery recovery- I feel you.
8. My family is my absolute everything. My parents are my best friends and my two older brothers and perfect at being older brothers 😋
Bonus random fact: the most common ethnicity/ race I get asked about is whether or not I am any type of Asian... I’m 0% 😂 but flattered 💕

-Yoga poses for Pinched Nerves-
A lot of people ask me about poses that pertain to spinal alignment/ pain relief, in relation to pinched nerves.🧘🏾‍♀️
It’s called a pinched nerve because that’s what it feels like. But there’s a lot more going on:
The 24 moving bones of your spine protect your spinal cord while permitting normal turning and bending. Pairs of nerve roots, one on each side, branch off your spinal cord at each segmental level to service the organs and tissues of your body. When these openings are obstructed, even slightly, your brain can’t properly control and regulate your body.✨✨✨✨ This is a Childs’ Pose Variation (Balasana Variation) , A Beginner level pose -a restorative pose for the spinal cord and hips 💫

Club Yoga’s very first drop-in yin yang workshop. Come and go at any time. This is great chance for people to try yin yang yoga for the first time or stay for longer and take your practice deeper.

Yin is a deep practice with slow transitions, gentle movements, longer holds, and greater awareness of the deeper patterns that organise the flow of energy in your body and mind.

Yang movements test you, insisting that you reach beyond what you think is possible. Yin movements unfold without effort or strain, allowing things to change more gradually.
Through this 2.5 hour practice, you will be able to use Yin and Yang approaches to cultivate strength, balance, coordination, and fluidity.

🤩⛄️🐳 Day 1️⃣4️⃣ of #CollateralPractice with @cyogalife ➡️ #Marichyasana lift 🐳⛄️🤩
I think this version is slightly easier than today’s pose, but did meet a few people who complained this is not an easier modification. This armbalance also requires hip/hamstring flexibility and you will feel much lighter if the shin rest high above the arm. .

From a seated position, bend one leg up and wrap the same side arm around as if you are about to go into Marichyasana A. Instead of binding the hands, place both palms on the floor and lift your hips up. Your arm should be pushing the shin backwards while your shin pushes into your arm, and you will be able to float up in the middle of those two forces. Needless to say, engage hip flexors and legs all the way to the tip of the toes and use the sides of the torso to stabilize the pose.
