Growing up and traveling to far-off places instilled a love of landscape in artist Zaria Forman (@zarialynn). “My mother was a fine-art photographer, she was very interested in really remote landscapes and getting as far away from cities and people as she could for her photography. Every summer for about one month, we would travel to pretty remote places,” says Zaria, who is based in Brooklyn, New York, and documents climate change through her pastel work. “We take action to make decisions based on our emotions more than anything else. I have this special ability with my talent as an artist to tap into emotions, because that’s what art does.”

@TimLaman | Closeup detail of sea star in Coiba National Park. Central America’s largest uninhabited island, Coiba sits just off the Pacific coast of Panama and has many endemic species of animals and plants. It was a penal colony for almost 100 years until 10 years ago, so it is covered with lush rainforest. I am back again this week focusing on the underwater realm. Stay tuned for new pics! #Coiba, #Panama, @thephotosociety, @natgeocreative.

“During an early morning game drive in Etosha, Namibia, we stopped by Okaukuejo water hole,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Yaron Schmid. “This place is known for the large amount of animals that tend to visit it during the day. Unfortunately, only a lone zebra and a few Oryx were in the area. Luckily, this cautious zebra finally reached the water and started drinking as the first rays of the rising sun penetrated the morning clouds.” This image was selected for the Daily Dozen on November 19, 2018.

Photo by Stephen Alvarez @salvarezphoto | A Bedouin man leads his camels past Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) in the Nabatean city of Petra. Built in the first century A.D, this mausoleum is the most famous of Petra’s carved facades. In the first century Petra was a prosperous city of 20,000 built in part on the lucrative trade in frankincense. The engineering that went into Petra is astounding. Not only were huge tombs like this carved from solid rock, but water was diverted for miles along covered aqueducts to water the prosperous city. Shifting trade routes later bypassed Petra, and it was abandoned by all but a handful of nomads by the late 700s. #petra #jordan

Photo by @taylorglenn // In Utah’s Cathedral Valley, these incredible boulders made of basalt and andesite were deposited throughout the desert during massive landslides and then are distributed throughout the landscape by the erosive forces of water. Completely out of place and visually stunning. Follow @taylorglenn for more from the West and beyond. #utah #desert #geology #travel #nature
