“Art and politics have many things in common. They both imagine the future, they both use emotions, and manage the power of symbols. Art like politics affect people. And I’m interested in that space where art and politics coincide, so we can transform social affect into political effectiveness.” - @taniabruguera 🙌🏽Repost @charpenelpatrick

Message from our ED Patrick Charpenel: “Familia, as an institution rooted in social justice and created for and by the community, we are gravely concerned about the fate of more than 3,000 children and counting, many of whom are from Latin America, who have been separated from their families and are currently being held in detention centers, shelters, and temporary housing in El Barrio and around the country. Families and children are enduring needless trauma with possible long-term harm to their mental and physical health, amounting to a serious violation of human rights. We urge the administration and our national leaders to take swift action to develop immigration policies that are humane and in the best interests of children and families. We encourage everyone to stand for what is right in support of immigrants! Your prayers, donations, and/or time is greatly needed and appreciated at this time. For more info on how you can help, see ⛓️ in bio for a list of organizations currently offering direct support to those affected. Muchas gracias, Patrick Charpenel, Executive Director,El Museo del Barrio” || 📸 Image from Dreaming up North: Children on the Move Across the Americas, an exhibition in our Cuentame Gallery in the fall of 2017.
