"I could do other things much better: I write better; I paint better. Sculpture is the thing that I know how to do least, so I feel obliged to do it because I say to myself, 'If I manage to understand something through an art form that I don't know how to do well, imagine what I can do with an art form that I master!'" - Alberto Giacometti. To our followers in Spain. Don’t miss @museoguggenheim "Lucio Fontana. On the Threshold", an exhibition that offers a unique opportunity to reconsider the legacy of Lucio Fondana, one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century, with a large selection of paintings, ceramic and bronze sculptures, drawings, and his “ambienti spaziali” installations, all of which he created between 1931 and 1968. The show is organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in collaboration with the Fondazione Lucio Fontana and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. #FontanaGuggenheimBilbao #Guggenheim #GuggenheimBilbao

" [..] penso che le mie sculture siano cristalli, o nuclei, oppure occhi o fuochi, per la frontiera e per il viaggio, per la complessità, per l’immaginario". Born on this day Arnaldo Pomodoro, among the major Italian sculptors of 20th century, well-known for his enormous metal spheres with a cracked surface revealing an intricate interior with another cracked sphere inside. #ArnaldoPomodoro #NasherSculptureGarden #PeggyGuggenheimCollection

🇬🇧 In this work “Maimed and Stateless (Mutilé et apatride)”, 1936, Jean (Hans) Arp concealed the masthead, dates, and headlines from the newspapercovered surface but left three words distinctly visible: “mutilé et apatride”, “maimed and stateless.” The text beneath the title words is only partly legible, though the German “heimatlose[…]” (stateless) appears in the first line, a word suggesting the international and perhaps personal implications of Arp’s title: like the individuals referred to in the newspaper article, Arp had also spent several years after World War I with his citizenship in limbo. Bringing the predicament of displacement into an alarming present, another piece of newspaper features analysis of news from the Rhineland, where German troops had recently moved into a demilitarized buffer zone, in violation of international agreements. “Maimed and stateless” was rapidly being established as a prevailing condition of contemporary life. #WorldRefugeeDay #TheNatureofArp #peggyguggenheimcollections

#WorldRefugeeDay #TheNatureofArp #PeggyGuggenheimCollection

To our followers in Spain. Don't miss at @museoguggenheim Bilbao through September 2, "Gerhard Richter: Seascapes". This is the first exhibition to present a broad variety of these works, in which the artist relies both on traditional sources as well as the popular snapshots taken while on vacation, in order to present a reflection on nature and visual perception. Through these paintings and drawings, Richter forces us to face the problem of representation, merging the painted surface and the photographic record into one. #RichterGuggenheimBilbao #Guggenheim

Venice, summer 1990 - “[..] And it was like a dream, escaping from the hot streets full of life to come in the palazzo, turned gallery, full of calm, deep shades from the garden playing silhouettes on the gallery walls, quietly observing visitors from around the world admiring artworks in semi silence [..].The art call I felt visiting Peggy Guggenheim museum for the first time meant a lot to me. Many years later I’ve discovered the great passion in my life is art [..]. Now I wish your Museum continues to be inspirational cultural institution, open to everybody to inspire across the boundaries of geography, politics, generations, gender, for many more years to come” - Tamara Kralj Jare, Slovenia #MyPeggyGuggenheimCollection #PointOfView
